The Morning Routine

My version

By Mandy SalcedoPublished 6 years ago 4 min read

In no way do I want to come off braggadocious when I delve into the details of my morning routine and how wonderful it makes me feel. The goal here is to INSPIRE. Although I could be more consistent (working my way up to consistency, life happens) my morning routine is my holy grail, and It sets the tone for my day. I can survive a day or two of skipping it but by day three, I am easily wrapped up in my emotions and thoughts - the way people act towards me, negative feelings, and painful memories. I have to remind myself, ah yes... had I not flaked on my routine, this all could have been quite different.

To Begin, I will explain why my routine came to be, keep in mind I am in no way a religious person. Not that there's anything wrong with being religious, To each his own. I grew up with a father who is a Jehovah's Witness and a mother who is sick of religion, I had the best of both worlds given that they divorced a year and eight months after I was born ( I love my life I would not change a single thing that has happened). Even though my mom left the religion, she still very much believed in God. That being said, I realized at a young age I did not want to be a part of a religion, that it seemed to be a reason to seperate us as human race. I am a woman of science, I have come to understand energy on a deeper level from my own personal experience. I have seen for myself the power of written word, and how the positive/negative energy in your thoughts affects your actions and the world you see around you.

Step One

Acknowledging the life force is how I begin my day, with prayer. I call upon my divinity of choice, I say "I surrender to the universe" a few times, or as much as I feel called to, and then I express my letting go- worries, self doubt, monetary needs, insecurities " I release all lower frequency vibrations to the angels for healing and transmutation" (I write a story on my belief in angels one of these days). Once I pray for myself, I imagine the world completely changed for the better, I pray that all evil is exposed and we live in a world of love and peace. I heard along the grapevine that imagination is key to a beautifully functioning prayer.

Step Two

After I pray, I indulge in a mindfulness meditation. Meditation teaches you to be still with your body/mind and it gives you the space to hear your deepest desires. It connects you profoundly with your thoughts, actions, and intuition. Does that sound blissful? It is. I see a tremendous difference on days when I meditate and days I do not. After putting meditation aside for a few days, I am an entirely different person. I can be short fused, impulsive, and plainly put- a negative nancy. Consciously connecting with your breath has the power to change your entire life for the better. Remember, I am not religious, I do this to create peace, to heal, and to reset. As an example, that I heard on this app "Headspace", The mind is like an ocean, your thoughts are like the currents, but deep beneath the surface is more calm and clear.

Step Three

I follow my prayer and meditation with affirmations. I never realized how much negative self talk I had created until I started believing what I had written for my affirmations. What are affirmations? Positive self talk- "I am beautiful" "I am Loved" "I am intelligent" and so on. Go ahead, take a moment to write some positive things (at least 3-5) about yourself. I repeat these in the mirror everyday, it has been years now that I have been doing this and one thing I can say is, It works! "30 days to create a habit, 90 days to create a lifestyle" Affirmations create a foundation of what you believe makes you who you are, or who you want to be. This too will impact your life in the most beautiful way, give it a try.

Step Four

Still with me? Only one more short step after this. Once I have completed everything above, I do some journaling in two separate notebooks. One holds my dreams and gratitudes. When I say dreams I mean that literally, whatever I can recall from my dreams the night before, I jot down. In the other half of that journal, I write three things I am grateful for. I do this because it is easy to say you are grateful but there is enormous beauty and power in writing specific reasons you are grateful for things/people/situations in your life, every day. In my larger journal, I mostly just speak my mind, vent, or do morning pages, I also like to set intentions for my life.

Once I do all that, all that is left is to make a smoothie and workout. This is my current morning routine and it aligns me up spiritually to have a glorious and synchronistic day. May this routine step by step guide find you in good health and inspire you to bring more positive, loving energy into your life.
