“Planet of the Apes” is a widely recognized science fiction American franchise that depicts the struggle for existence between humans and intelligent apes. The original Planet of the Apes film was a great hit. It was based on the novel “La Planete des singes” by the French novelist Pierre Boulle. The original film is considered to be one of the most famous films ever made. Since the original film's popularity, many sequels and reboots have been produced in an attempt to profit from that success.

Several of these films were utter flops that failed to live up to the original. Others were so outstanding that they outperformed the original movie. This film series, which includes nine movies altogether, has seen its fair share of significant ups and downs. Because the Planet of the Apes timeline is a little confused, we have arranged them in chronological order for you.

1. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)

The first film on our list features James Franco as Will Rodman, a scientist in the coming future looking for a treatment for Alzheimer's. Rodman sees a newborn chimp treated to an experimental medication at the beginning of the film. When the baby's mother dies, Rodman adopts him and names him Caesar. Rupert Wyatt directed the picture, which stars Andy Serkis in motion capture as Caesar.

The film received excellent reviews from critics, who praised the acting and storyline. Everyone was looking forward to seeing where the franchise would go next.

2. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)

It is the second film in this series and excelled on the first, which was already a great hit. The film starts ten years after the events of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, with Andy Serkis' Caesar ruling a thriving ape society in the Redwood forests south of San Francisco. The Simian disease has killed off most of mankind, but survivors headed by a man named Dreyfus (played by Gary Oldman) found the apes while entering the jungle to fix a hydroelectric dam.

What truly distinguishes this series from the others is that the self-conscious apes are performed with enough delicacy and emotion to make them compelling characters as the characters in the movie.

3. War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)

Matt Reeves comes back in the director's chair for this film. It starts up two years after Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, with Caesar still in command of his apes. He's coping with the consequences of Koba's revolution, which leads an elite force of soldiers commanded by Colonel J. Wesley McCullough (played by Woody Harrelson) to continue seeking Caesar's apes. Caesar's last hope of escaping with his family is to cross a vast desert, but in the end, a war between Caesar and Colonel J. Wesley.

Caesar never wanted a war, but after Colonel J. Wesley murders his wife and son, he determines to go after him alone. Finally, Caesar demands the release of all captive apes and strikes an agreement that apes and humans would coexist without invading Territory.

4. Planet of the Apes (1968)

The fourth film on our list is where it all began, directed by Franklin J Schaffner. It follows three astronauts as they awaken after a crash landing on a strange planet. One of the astronauts, George Taylor (Charlton Heston), is finally kidnapped by intelligent apes. Taylor teams up with a friendly monkey named Zira (played by Kim Hunter) researching him.

Afterward, he ventures into the Forbidden Zone desert in an attempt to flee the apes that have imprisoned that astronaut. That's when he finds the realities about the apes' world.

5. Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970)

Brent (James Franciscus) is the sole survivor of a ship assigned to find the three astronauts from the first film "Planet of the Apes”. Brent encounters Nova, Taylor's leading lady from the previous film, shortly after arriving in the Forbidden Zone. Brent is brought to the ape city by her, where he meets Zira. Brent went back to the Forbidden Zone, and the story then continued with an interesting timeline.

6. Escape from Planet of the Apes (1971)

At the end of Beneath the Planet of the Apes, we discovered that the Alpha and Omega doomsday devices destroy the planet. But before the activation of the doomsday device, Zira and her husband repaired the spaceship by which astronauts came to the planet of apes.

All three apes are taken to a zoo in Los Angeles and tested for intellect. However, government scientist Hassling believes that apes represent a danger to humans and should be eradicated.

7. Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972)

The baby Ape has evolved and is now nurtured by Armando, and a circus owner called the child Caesar. Caesar was only the ape that can communicate. It causes everyone to recognize that Caesar is not like most Apes, and the kid of Zira and Cornelius could be a peril to mankind.

8. Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973)

The story picks up after the previous installment’s terrible battle between apes and humans. The remnant humans and apes are attempting to survive. According to Caesar, the only way to preserve the world is to coexist peacefully with people, yet other Apes and humans believe that Apes and humans cannot exist side by side.

In this chronological order, the 2001 relaunch was just a flop. You may watch it after 1968, Planet of the Apes, to observe the differences, or reserve it for the end as a bonus watch. Because it is a complete reboot, it is the only film in the series that does not have a defined location in the chronology.
