redeeming my childhood
I did not grow up on cartoons like many children in my generation. My Saturday mornings were filled with my own imaginative past-times; creating worlds for my Playmobil figures to live in, planning circuses, plays, and game shows for my siblings and I to put on for our parents, and writing my pointless little stories in which my characters ran away from home and lived outlandish and extravagant lives. The only screen time I was allowed to partake in consisted of watching e-card messages on Dayspring, watching our old home movies, and maybe, if I was lucky, 20 stolen minutes of caring for my Webkinz animals while my momma-dearest was upstairs.

Barnabas Collins & The 1,225 Episode Crush
I’m secretly in love with a fictitious 1960s Soap Opera vampire. His name is Barnabas Collins. Don’t tell anybody. Many, if not most of us, have had starter marriages. They’re the unintentional mistakes we make so we can understand what love is. I wasn’t ready for marriage the first time around. I dated fast and said yes without thinking. A year later, when I was healing from my only divorce and in the middle of a great depression, I read an article about an old 1960’s soap opera called Dark Shadows. Starter marriages are fodder for soap operas. And newly divorced depressed women are the perfect fans of soap operas. I needed someone to take my mind off of things, and that someone ended up being Jonathan Frid’s deliciously scene-stealing Barnabas Collins.

True Blood, It's Fang Lickin' Good. Top Story - February 2021.
Does it have vampires? I’m in. I don’t know what it is about vampires but I have been obsessed from a young age. I’m not talking pre-teen young when Twilight came out (which as far as vampire stories go, does not rank high for me), I’m talking 6 years old when I still had baby teeth but was dreaming about having fangs. No, I’m serious. I literally dreamed about meeting vampires and begging them to turn me into a vampire too. Which they never agreed too… Even in my dreams I can’t be the dream version of myself!

My Guilty Pleasure Is...
Love is Blind. I swear, it is the worst show ever. It had the worst concept too. Blind dates through a wall? Falling in love with a voice? A personality? Come on! Please. But boy, the rational part of my brain died that whole month it aired as I impatiently waited for each episode to come out and would binge watch it then come storming into the bedroom wanting to talk about all this reality show drama with my husband who could honestly careless. So I inherently recruited my sister who did enjoy this with me, and we could celebrity gossip at will.

Bite me, not that hard!
As much as I love a good show, I'd say I don't laze around watching TV all day. However, after dinner, a Friday night, or a rainy, it's these moments that entrap me into watching something advertised on Netflix or Stan. We had just finished watching some German show on Netflix when my boyfriend mentioned it. I couldn't believe it. He is the only person I know who is deeply passionate about films, scriptwriting, play, cinematography, etc... To hear him utter the words "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" sent me laughing and snorting. Looking at the trailer even confirmed my expectations. Firstly, from the terrible effects of the vampires and werewolves; to the cliché 90s high school girl drama. I knew it would only last one episode. Amazingly, after a couple of seasons in, and we both found ourselves laughing heartedly at the stupid jokes, and I was genuinely interested in Buffy's backstory. Did a mention a young David Boreanaz??!!

Not Your Typical Binger
I am a binge addict. Anyone else honest enough to admit that? Oh, I see your heads nodding, and you’re definitely saying, “Me too.” “How is he reading my mind?” you wonder. “This writer probably deserves to win one of those prizes at them Vocal challenges.”

I’m all ears
They say this is a no judgement zone and write to my tv binge hearts content but my confessional is liable to get me bypassed. Beheaded, even, in some countries or circles. However, if there’s one thing the past several years have taught us, it’s that the popular vote doesn’t always matter.

Bring on the Apocalypse
When the novel corona virus hit the planet with its unfortunate stature, I couldn’t help but to feel a bantam of guilt. For years, I’ve been praying for an apocalypse, or rather, a sickness to wipe out this disastrous human race. It may be axiomatic to the people who have known and understand my ghoulish mind, but I am slightly obsessed with the idea of conveying a “Mad Max” or “Dawn of the Dead” type of world. Since the dawn of this apocalyptic plague, I’ve been on a binge with all the zombie shows out there. It has gone as far as watching the “The Walking Dead” (a thriller, drama created by Frank Darabont and Angela Kang in 2010) on repeat for damn near 10 months.

How a "Lost Girl" Helped Find So Many
Some of us know the feeling. It's a Saturday night and you don’t have any plans. Nobody to hang out with nor a smoking hot date to take home and have some… fun. Oh the agony of it all! But never fret, you look at the positive. You can just sit on your comfy couch or lay on your bed, grab your favorite brand of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream and proceed to go and watch the latest episode of your favorite new show on Hulu, Netflix or whatever streaming platform you choose only to realize one thing. Your show didn’t come out with a new episode this week, oh god the horror!
