IF
IF came out earlier this year and it really seemed like it was just a grown up version of Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. John Krasinski is both in it and he directed it. I think that he has a decent enough range but having Ryan Reynolds in the movie hurts it I think. Krasinski, Reynolds and Zachary Levi all have the same energy to me, they are relatively mediocre at exactly one thing and that is all they are capable of doing. I wouldn’t consider any of them serious actors, yet somehow they keep getting hired. No one had high hopes for this movie, but it came out this year which means I have to watch it so here we go.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
In a world where studio executives seem to think that every goddamn film needs to be built into a franchise, audiences have had to endure some truly terrible sequels and prequels. We’ve seen this with tv shows, newer films but more recently popular movies from the 80s. Yes we are here complaining about Ghostbusters. Or rather the newest Ghostbusters movie. Now that is one film that should have been left as a one and done. Even with the original cast the first prequel was terrible. Then we had that placating gender bent version which did nothing but piss me off. And now we have yet another sequel, and I am pretty sure I’m missing one that was made in between those last two. Ghostbusters Frozen Empire was disappointing, unnecessary and an entire waste of time.

The new movie of the Evil Dead saga is confirmed and will be titled Evil Dead Burn
Fans of the Evil Dead saga, the deadites, have every reason to celebrate. The classic franchise of the horror genre will create a new movie and it will be called Evil Dead Burn. This story will be directed by Sébastien Vanicek, a talented and transgressive French artist. This movie will be produced by the prestigious filmmaker Sam Raimi, an icon in the horror genre. The company creating the film, Ghost House Pictures, has given Vanicek and Raimi total creative freedom to do what they feel is best for a well-crafted story. The ultimate goal of these artists is for audiences to experience fabulously frightening sensations and enjoy high quality horror.

Fly Me To The Moon
Fly Me To The Moon is a film about the space race, or at least it uses that point in history as a backdrop. An all star cast including Woody Harrelson, Scarlet Johansson and Channing Tatum carry the story of the first moonwalk. Channing Tatum is really known for goofy roles. He has great comedic timing but he really hasn’t been awesome at roles that require anything more from him. That said, seeing him in Deadpool and Wolverine as Gambit really changed my viewpoint on him as an actor. So I can’t wait to see what he does with this movie.

Stress Positions
Neon has been on fire this year, they have cranked out so many films this year and they are all worth the watch. Among them is the film Stress Positions. This is one of their smaller films this year, I am not sure how widely it was marketed. I know that I didn’t see that much about it, but that can be a sign of a brilliant film, so let’s see if this one will be worth some awards conversations.

Mothers' Instinct
One of the quieter movies released this year was Mothers’ Instinct starring Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain. These smaller production studios have been releasing truly fantastic films. But there is more to independent film than A24, Neon has been doing some really incredible work this year and this film is simply one of many. The stars of the show also have producer credit on the film, which is a great sign it shows that the actors are invested in the story that they are telling.

Borderlands
Borderlands was a movie that was shoved in my face. I don’t think any real people were particularly excited for it and yet the marketing was rather aggressive. Especially if you went to SDCC, they were all over the place. Now my husband gave me a little insight as he is a huge video game nerd and I am not. Apparently most video game to movie adaptations are truly terrible, and I firmly believe that. This is just another casualty.
