MCU Theory: How Vision Could Prove Vital To Wiccan's Story Arc

Looking to the future.

WARNING! SPOILERS for WandaVision and Agatha All Along.

Ever since his departure to parts unknown in the series finale of WandaVision, fans have been wondering where the rebuilt White Vision will show up next. Now, finally, we have received some relatively solid info, with star Paul Bettany stating that the long-rumoured Vision-centric spin-off, is due to begin filming in early 2025.

Tentatively titled Vision Quest, the new series is said to be the third chapter of a trilogy that began with WandaVision and continued earlier this year in Agatha All Along. Fans will be aware that Agatha All Along ended on a cliffhanger, with Billy Maximoff, coming into his powers as the superhero Wiccan, and the ghost of Agatha Harkness embark on a new quest to find Billy's recently revived twin brother, Tommy. While rumours are swirling that, despite it's original status as a limited series, Agatha All Along may now have a second season in the works, the structure of the MCU means that this potential second season won't necessarily follow on directly from the first. Billy's story will most likely pick up in Vision Quest.

Here's why Vision may prove vital to Wiccan's story arc.

Son of a Synthezoid

Born during WandaVision's third episode within the sitcom world his Mother had built around Westview and named for his synthezoid Father's love of Shakespeare, Billy Maximoff was the second-born son of Wanda Maximoff and the new Vision she had created within the Hex. His arrival came as a surprise, as the couple had not been aware that Wanda was expecting twins.

Later in the series, after rapid-aging to ten years old, Billy develops powers of telepathy and a blue magic similar to his Mother's Scarlet. Unfortunately, it is eventually revealed that neither Billy, Tommy, or Vision can survive outside of the hex.

When Wanda takes the hex down, their physical bodies fade. However, Agatha All Along reveals that Billy's soul entered the recently deceased body of William Kaplan, a boy killed in a car accident as the hex was coming down. While Agatha All Along mostly discusses Billy's connection to Wanda and everything that comes with that (As Wiccan, Billy's power set expands to include reality-warping and mind control, two key abilities of his Mother), a few details prove that the series does not forget who his Father was.

Wiccan's cape carries the same pattern as Vision's, albeit reversed. While Vision's cape is gold with red accents, Billy's is mostly red with a few gold accents.

Fans have also noted that Wiccan's pose in flight is equally as reminiscent of Vision as it is of the Scarlet Witch.

Wiccan's potential relationship with White Vision

We should note at this point that Billy's Father was the Vision created by Wanda as part of the Westview hex, and not White Vision, the reassembled and revived body of the of the original Vision who fled Westview towards the end of WandaVision's final episode, and who will most likely be the central character of Vision Quest.

This will probably result in a scenario similar to the comics. After The Vision is kidnapped and disassembled, The Avengers try to reassemble him, but with his synthetic skin destroyed and Wonder Man refusing to grant permission to use his brain waves (which were a large part of making Vision who he was), the rebuilt Vision emerges as a colourless shadow of his former self.

Vision loses connection to his emotions for a time, and views himself as a separate being to the 'original' Vision. He no longer sees himself as Wanda's wife, or the Father of their twin sons.

In the case of the MCU's White Vision, he is genuinely not Billy or Tommy's Father. However, that doesn't mean that they aren't still connected. In WandaVision, we learned that S.W.O.R.D. had been trying, and failing, to revive Vision since Infinity War. Their efforts finally succeed in WandaVision, after securing a sample of Wanda's magic. The same magic, as it happens, from which the twins were born.

So, though White Vision is not the twins' Father, they do have a shared heritage in owing their lives to Wanda's power, and as White Vision works to re-establish his identity, he may find himself drawn to them for this reason.

How Vision could be vital to Wiccan's arc moving forward

Recent reports have claimed that Marvel has been seeking an actor to play the teenage co-lead in Vision Quest. Fans have theorised that this could be one of two characters: either Viv Vision, Vision's synthezoid daughter from the comics, or Tommy. Given Agatha All Along's ending, and Vision Quest being the next chapter of that story, Tommy, currently, would appear to make the most sense. If so, Billy and Agatha's quest to find Tommy could bring them in contact with Vision.

In Agatha All Along, it is established that after entering William Kaplan's body, Billy does not remember any of the events that transpired in Westview. He pieces together his own identity over time, and only knows Tommy exists because his spirit lingers around him. Later, Agatha helps guide Billy through his memory of the end of the Hex to help him fully connect to Tommy and find a body for him to inhabit. This proves that the memories are there within Billy's mind, he simply does not have easy access to them.

In WandaVision, Hex-Vision displays the power to unlock a person's true identity and memories. He later unlocks the memories of White Vision, reminding him that a synthezoid's memories are not easily erased. While Billy looks human, he is still technically part synthezoid, potentially explaining why he can hold onto his early memories even while unable to access them.

While the extent of White Vision's powers are currently uncertain, it is within the realm of possibility that he could do for Billy what Hex-Vision did for him, and fully unlock his memories(and possibly Tommy's). Having his memory restored may soften Billy's feelings about Wanda, and lead to him wanting to find her, which could then eventually lead into an adaptation of 'Young Avengers: The Children's Crusade'. White Vision could also potentially be a part of this story, because a version of Vision (albeit a younger one), is part of the Young Avengers team at that point in the comics.

We have a lot to look forward to. Hopefully we'll get some answers when Vision Quest eventually hits our screens.
