Shawshank Redemption
One of my favorite movies to watch when I'm feeling dejected and despondent would have to be Shawshank Redemption. This movie always somehow reminds me that even on my worst days, there's always tomorrow. If there's always a tomorrow, there's always a chance that tomorrow will be better than the day before, and even if it's not - there's hope that one day it will be.

Retro Review: Leap Year
Fair warning: I am a Matthew Goode fan and watch him in practically every movie/television series I can unless it's horror. I can't watch that for any actor. That warning aside, I somehow managed to miss this movie when it came out in 2010. I finally watched it last night, and it's one that is going on my to-be-watched-again list.

Deep Water Review
Patricia Highsmith's 1957 novel "Deep Water" was published five years before Edward Albee unleashed George and Martha on the world, terrorizing social customs with a game of Get the Guests. Her book created a couple so toxic it took Hollywood six and a half decades to reimagine them.

Review of 'Pieces of Her'
The thriller genre is arguably the most popular on Netflix, and I’m always excited to see a new thriller series pop up in my recommended viewing. Pieces of Her, based on a novel by Karin Slaughter, was of particular interest because my recently released novel Omniscience is also about a mother with a mysterious past.

Movie Review: 'Alice' Starring Keke Palmer
Alice stars Keke Palmer as a woman named Alice who has been raised as a slave. Alice is a captive on a Georgia plantation so deep in the woods that word of the end of the Civil War never reached the people held captive there. We know this because we’ve seen the trailer and therein lies a fatal flaw in the film-making concept behind Alice. The movie drags on for nearly 40 minutes crafting an air of mystery and secrets while illustrating life on the plantation as if setting us up for a shocking reveal that we're already fully aware of.

My Review of "Copshop"
Copshop is a mysterious movie that was released in 2021. I had seen a few trailers for this movie last year and they didn't show much. It didn't seem like a movie that would appeal to me at all. This is why when I finally got a chance to check it out I was really impressed with what they did.

Kickass Adult Animation Films To Watch Based On Your Zodiac Sign
Hey, cartoons aren't just for kids! A lesson I first learned watching Adult Swim on late nights in the early 2000s, waaayyy before Tom (4.0? 5.0? God he just keeps dying) and Toonami had any sort of say in that. Nostalgia can come in another article though, I'm trying to jog your memories about some of the wacky, inventive animated movies that used to come on TV, and definitely were not for kids. Stuff like . . . Fritz the Cat, and Beavis and Butthead Do America.

Turning Red Critique of the Critiques. Top Story - March 2022.
A few days ago I hopped onto my Disney+ account and watched "Turning Red". I wanted something that was a bit light hearted and cartoonish. I had heard from a critic who I tend to respect, Chris Stuckmann, that if you're into anime, you'd enjoy this movie. And he's right. I found the movie adorable, and it was heavily influenced by anime.

17 Best Quotes from The French Dispatch (2021)
Wes Anderson’s latest film, the aesthetically pleasing comedy The French Dispatch, is another star-studded affair to add to the auteur’s oeuvre. Split into three parts, the film is described by the director as a love letter to journalists – in this case, those of a fictional newspaper in a 20th-century French town (aptly called Ennui-sur-Blasé). Owen Wilson’s laid-back, easygoing character introduces viewers to the setting in a humorously matter-of-fact way, adding tidbits of insider information to help the audience settle into this new world – though it will feel familiar to Wes Anderson fans.
