My Review of "Vince Carter: Legacy"
A deep dive into the long tenured career of Vince Carter.

Vince Carter: Legacy is yet another documentary into the life and times of Vince Carter. You'll remember 2 years ago I reviewed the Carter Effect. Some of the same information is regurgitated in this documentary but in a different manner. The Carter Effect focused on Vince Carter's influence in Toronto and Canada in general. This new documentary simply dives deeper into the career of Vince Carter.
The documentary opens up by telling us stuff we don't already know about Vince. He's an icon that is revered by both players and non-players alike. His work ethic and personal demeanor has made him a favorite person for many people. That's when they go into his past.
In the Carter Effect they didn't really go that deep into Vince's past. This one is detailed with some of his teachers and even his mother. Vince has a lot more facetime in this documentary than any other documentary that he's been in. It's great because you really get to hear the information straight from him. The information isn't lost in translation or through broken telephone. He's there and he's making his testimony.
They go into some detail about how he could have gone into different avenues in life when he was very young. He was a gifted athlete from the beginning however there were some influential situations that had changed his trajectory.
This documentary does go into some of the details of his Toronto tenure which is obviously the highlights of his career. Though they didn't go into too much detail into his actual influence in the Toronto and Canada scene as a whole. This was probably smart because the Carter Effect had already covered this pretty extensively.
What the Carter Effect didn't go into detail about was Vince's storied transition into his role as a journeyman player. As his star light dimmed later on in his career he still had much love for the game and was willing to learn to adapt to continue playing.
I kind of wished that they would go into more detail as to what he had to do on a daily basis in order to keep himself playing at such a high caliber level. The emphasis in the beginning of the documentary was about how he was able to outlast many of his contemporaries in the NBA but they failed to give out even more details.
There are of course details of how he had changed to adapt into his new roles. He had to take a huge ego beating at times but he was able to persevere. My question was how was he able to continue to motivate himself on the daily in order to continue going to the gym and out working his peers. Maybe it's a god given talent that he has that many of us just don't have.
This documentary is absolutely relatable because often times we see our own stars dim after a certain age. Vince has been a huge influence and motivator to keep working. I mean this guy was able to play at an elite NBA level to the age of 43. He was playing against kids half his age and was able to best some of them.
Overall, the most important factor is that this documentary is very entertaining. I think it's even more entertaining to people that had followed his career or even remembered those glorious Toronto Raptor years. This documentary was able to truly show how genuine and classy he really is. If you didn't like him before you'll like him after watching this show. That's why I have to give this documentary a 7.5 out of 10. There are a few things that I wished they had added but overall a great time.
