My Review of "Peacemaker: Season 1"
This could have been one big movie instead of a TV show.

Peacemaker: Season 1 is a very short mini series that came out on HBO in 2022. If you liked the Suicide Squad (2021) that came out last year you'll be right at home with this TV series. It feels a lot like that movie and for good reason. It's written and directed by the same person.
This TV show starts off right after the events of the movie. Those that watched the movies might be a little shocked at the fact that Peacemaker actually has a show that continues from the movie. They have good reason to question it because it looked like he died in the movie. True to mainstream movies today there was a end scene after the movie finished to let the audience know that Peacemaker survived that horrific building crash and gun shot wound.
Funny enough this TV series recognizes how over the top and crazy it is and makes fun of the fact that Peacemaker survived. He got shot in the throat and a whole building collapsed on him and all he got was a broken collar bone and I guess fell into a coma for a few months.
Peacemaker wakes up and realizes he's not back in jail so he runs off and sees his father. From that interaction we soon learn why Peacemaker is the person that he is today. Their wild relationship is over the top and I found it extremely funny.
Even though he feels free he isn't quite as free as he thinks. Waller has assigned a few members of her team to use Peacemaker to accomplish some special missions. You'll recognize a face or two from the movie that reappear in this show.
They all have to get along and work together to accomplish the task at hand. Fortunately each one of them has vital skills that will help the team out. Unfortunately a lot of them don't play well with others and they're all screw ups in their own way. This only makes sense since it is a spinoff from the Suicide Squad.
The fun is pretty much non-stop and the jokes are flying at you a mile a minute. I didn't expect to have so much fun with this show. Their ineptitude with their mission only makes this show more relatable. Some of the members of this team are extremely green going into the mission. They react just as you would expect new agents would act on a highly classified mission as they're in.
Luckily for us each member only reveal a bit of their backstory. They reveal just enough that satiates us for more. The way that it's handled makes it obvious that there are more episodes to come. I hope so too because with only 3 episodes this is not enough for a first season.
In fact, I think they could have just truncated this TV show and just made it one big movie instead of three 45 minute episodes. It does make some sense to make it a TV show though. Like I said earlier they only revealed a bit of information about each of the characters. With a TV show, the layers of each character can slowly be revealed with the audience to build their investment with the show.
Overall, I really hope they come up with new episodes soon because these first 3 episodes were really well done. Each character has so much more that I want to know about them. They're all such great characters as well. I will have to give this season an 8 out of 10. The only reason why I didn't rate it higher is because they needed more episodes. Usually that's not a downfall for me but if this show is that good yeah it is.
