My Review of "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew"
This is basically the Goonies meets the Star Wars universe and it's glorious.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew was a little bit of an unexpected surprise of 2024. I didn't hear too much about it and I wasn't sure if I was going to like it. The last few Star Wars shows seemed to be going downhill and I was really losing interest in watching another Star Wars franchised TV show. Fortunately, I gave this one a chance and it redeemed my interest for the time being.
This season starts off with a boy named Wim. He's kind of an aimless kid that doesn't have many prospects. His biggest worry is this aptitude test that he has no desire of doing because he knows he's going to fail. Wim's best friend is Neel.
Neel is a cowardly but very loyal friend. He's a run of the mill kid but very enthusiastically supportive of his friend Wim. The two of them get into trouble because Wim continually finds trouble wherever he goes. Neel is an unfortunate casualty of all of Wim's stupid endeavors.
One day Wim finds what he believes is some sort of Jedi cave and brings Neel to help him dig into it. Before they could do this, they're intercepted by KB and Fern. Fern is the leader type of the two. KB is some sort of cyborg type of thing who happens to be Fern's best friend. Due to Fern's assertiveness, she takes over the operation and becomes the unofficial leader of the group.
They eventually break into this cave but find out that it's more than just a cave. It's actually a space ship that's been lodged into the ground. Through a series of accidents by Wim the group of kids get launched into space not knowing what's going to happen next.
The new adventure is for the gang to find their way home. That's going to be easier said than done because their home planet seems to be stricken from any map anyone's ever seen. They also find out that their home planet has a ton of secrets that they didn't know.
As the show progresses, the kids will encounter pirates and get themselves into dangerous situations. They even befriend a mysterious person named Jod. No one can tell if he's a good guy or a bad guy but we as the audience knows that he's up to no good.
This show is pretty much the Goonies if they were in the Star Wars universe. There are so many similarities between that movie because of all of the antics and situations that these kids get into. I think this is pretty much a profitable direction if you're going to make a TV show. You see how well Stranger Things did after they chose the same direction as well.
You'd think I would be a little jaded by the lack of creativity in the writing of this series because of the similarities to the aforementioned movie. I thought so too but the cast does a good job in breathing life into their characters. Each of them have enough charm to give me a vested interest in their character. The show is well paced and it gives enough room for each of the characters to shine.
It doesn't hurt that the visual effects for this show are quite good as well. There's a nice combination of CGI and practical effects that give us some of that old school feel while still being a bit modern. I like that they went this direction even though there's not much innovation to it.
Overall, what is most important is that I had a great time watching it. This is great for the whole family. It is hard to find anyone that isn't charmed by the characters of this show. I think this is one of the Star Wars TV shows that will be picked up again with tons of fanfare. I have to give this show a 7 out of 10.
