My Review of "The Intern"
An interesting office family dynamic movie. A good time to wind down from a heavy day.

The Intern is a interesting comedy that came out back in 2015. In some ways, I feel like this movie is ahead of its time considering it came out 10 years ago. A lot of the points they get across are still relevant to today and that's speaking a lot in today's quickly changing technological society.
The movie starts off with the introduction of Ben. He's a senior citizen that lives a pretty solitary life after his wife had passed away. Ben seems to be a very productive person but there doesn't seem to be anything for him to be productive for. Basically, he wants to feel like he can contribute in life.
On the other side of the coin there's Jules. She's a highly successful business woman that seems to be juggling too many things at once. Unknowingly, she agrees to request for an intern to join her company. This isn't an ordinary intern, this intern will be a senior citizen. Theoretically, I don't know why more companies don't do this because they have a lot to offer.
Lucky for Ben, he gets the job. The only thing he doesn't anticipate is how tough Jules can be. Well that's how it is in the very beginning. The story makes it out like this is kind of a old guy versus guarded boss but it isn't really that. Jules realizes that she's in over her head with work and she has to spread the wealth. She's just very reluctant to relinquish some of these responsibilities and she's hesitant to trust people.
You can already guess, Ben and her will eventually get along. This is kind of where the movie really shines. I found that their dynamic was pretty well done because I really felt like they had a great father and daughter relationship. They're best friends but there's a warmth that Ben brings to Jules that Jules doesn't really get all the time. It's something that she didn't realize that she needed until he showed up.
I also like the old school aspect of Ben. He brings up old traditions that younger people should learn about. Even in this age, his approach to professionalism should be admired. Despite him being an older gentleman, he's also willing to open his mind in terms of what the new generation is all about. Ben seems too good to be true because nowadays we see older generations scoffing at what the youth are about.
There's some weird yet fun antics that go on in this movie. They're just little diversions to show the work group bonding with one another and building their relationships. Although, everyone is part of the company this builds somewhat of a family feel that is nice to see. It's really Ben that builds all of these relationships and all with a lot of his old school charm.
The movie also seems like it's Ben's movie but it's really Jules and Ben's movie by the end. It starts off with Ben because he's coming in as the older one. The movie really leaves off with Jules as the next generation to come in to replace the old.
There's nothing really offensive in this movie so it's a nice easy watch. I think a lot of people will appreciate that since most movies are so political or overly violent that I want to escape. This is basically an escape movie. You will just be able to relax and have fun with this one.
Overall, I had a great time with this one and I wished they'd make more movies like this. They're easy to sit back and kill off 2 hours. It's geared towards anyone that's been having a pretty hectic time and need to wind down with something simple. I have to give it a 7 out of 10.
