My Review of "Only Murders in the Building: Season 4"
How do they keep this formula so fresh each season? It's like I know what should happen next but still want to know.

Only Murders in the Building: Season 4 has finished airing on Hulu and it is a very fun ride. Just as the others were before it, there seems to be a formula but they somehow keep it fresh. It's added fun that they know what they're doing and are very self referential when it comes to the cliches and usual schtick.
This season we recount all of the things that happened in the past season all the way to this season. The murdered individual that they're investigating this season is Sazz Pataki. Sazz has a been a recurring character throughout the seasons as Charles' stunt double. She's been an hilarious addition and I really sad to see that she was the one that was murdered.
Despite being murdered, it's nice to see some of Sazz' backstory. They were able to develop her character. She no longer fits as another comical side character. I love how they emphasized Charles' relationship with her despite Sazz stealing his girlfriend in an earlier season. The two were thick as thieves and it gives Charles the more motivation to find the culprit.
Meanwhile, Oliver is still love struck with his love interest from last season Loretta. They now have a long distant relationship as she's finishing her film career in Hollywood. Of course, there will be a ton of misunderstandings because of this and chaos ensues.
Mabel is kind of in limbo. She needs to find a new place to live while trying to solve this mystery. There's an added element of the trio being interviewed because they're trying to make a movie out of the trio's adventures. They don't even hold back on this by calling the movie, "Only Murders in the Building".
This is especially funny because we have famous actors playing themselves trying to play the trio in this TV series. It's all so wacky but yet it works. They really planned this show well with every single piece being part of the overarching story. Nothing is wasted so you know you have to pay attention to every little detail that they're going to expose us to.
Along the way there are a ton of new celebrities that come by to make cameos in this show. It's funny because they even make fun of the fact that they have so many cameos in this show already. One of my favorite cameos is the time when they meet Charles' sister. That was quite a hoot and the actor that cameos for this character is an absolute riot.
Still, there's this thing in the back of my mind where I can kind of see the formula playing out. Regardless of this, the show is so much fun with so much character and life that you can't turn away. Each episode captivated me and I wanted to see more. I wouldn't say that this is quite as good as the older seasons but it has the same charm and wit that will keep you coming back for more. At this point the show knows what it is and they're really confident with the product that they have. I say roll with it and give us more.
Overall, I really liked this season and I was entertained from all the way through from the beginning to the end. The cameos were a great touch with so many fun self-referential jokes that I couldn't stop laughing. The main three characters are as lovable as they ever were and they somehow continue to grow as characters in each season. This season kind of ends with another season in the works. I can't wait to watch that one as well. That's why I give this season an 7.5 out of 10. Unfortunately for some, you won't fully appreciate this unless you've seen the previous seasons.
