Do You Remember the twins?

Many animated cartoon series from the 1960s and 1970s are now available on streaming services. Seeing these programs from your childhood probably brings back fond memories. There were twins on Superfriends and also on Space Ghost. who had pets but were different.

Jan, Jace and Blip and Zan, Jayna, and Gleek. Do you remember them? Did you ever get the names, the pets, or the television shows mixed up? Perhaps you called Jan and Jayna by each other's names. Let's take a look at what makes these characters similar and different.

Super Friends

If you were a child, teen, or parent in the 1970s, you probably enjoyed watching the many Hanna-Barbera animated series on CBS. In addition to Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Top Cat, and others, there were cartoons that revolved around superheroes. One of them was Super Friends which premiered in 1973.

In 1977, the show was expanded and became The All-New Superfriends Hour, also airing on CBS. Popular comic book superheroes Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Superman worked together in the Justice League to combat criminals and bring peace to the world.

This time, they had the assistance of the teenage Wonder Twins and their pet monkey, Gleek. Each show had four segments. The first three showcase the heroes working together in pairs. The fourth usually taught some safety lessons to the audience. The Superfriends Hour can be seen on MeTV Toons on Saturdays from 2:00 to 3:00, from 4 to 5, and on weekdays at 4, so check your local listings.

Zan and Jayna The WonderTwins and Gleek

Zan and Jayna, The Wonder Twins were an extraterrestrial teenage brother and sister. This superhero duo first appeared in Hanna-Barbera's animated television series The All-New Super Friends Hour in 1977 in the episode Joyride. Gleek was their pet sidekick, an Exxorian space monkey.

Their superpowers are that Jayna can change herself into any animal, and Zan can transform into water in any state. Their names are a play or Tarzan-Zan and Jayne-Jana. Michael Bell was Zan's voice and also provided Gleek's monkey sounds.

Liberty Williams was the voice artist behind Jayna. Although they were not as well-known as the Caped Crusaders, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman, they found their place with the young Saturday morning cartoon audience.

Space Ghost, Jan,, Jace and Blip

Jan Jace and Blip

Space Ghost aired on CBS from 1966-1967 with reruns until 1986. Space Ghost could fly, and his deep voice implied power in the galaxy. he could also turn invisible, which fascinated many children in my neighborhood who wished we had that ability.

His teenage sidekicks, Jan and Jace and their pet monkey Blip fight crime in outer space. Usually, Space Ghost's sidekicks would often get captured by the villains in outer space. Space Ghost would have to defeat the intergalactic bad guys each time and save his friends.

Jan and Jason were orphans in Space Ghost's custody. They could fly, but I don't believe they had the power of invisibility. Steve J. Spears voiced Jace, and Alexandra Stoddart voiced Jan.

The twins similarities are apparent

Many animated cartoon series from the 1960s and 1970s are now available on streaming services. Seeing these programs from your childhood probably brings back fond memories.

The similarities between the two sets of siblings on Space Ghost and The Superfriends may not have been apparent at the time in the minds of young children, but now, long-term memory with streaming services replaying everything and the Internet, many connections are being made with past television programs.
