Installment 32 is here for you. Another trio of track athletes are featured as we rock with a group of ladies from around the planet. We got the United States, Russia and Jamaica checking in, proving that greatness is worldwide as we continue our celebration of excellent women during this hot and trying summer.
Lauren Carter
Headed to Pitt for college action, Lauren Carter had a strong high school career to earn an opportunity for a scholarship. At Bellefontaine High School she qualified for the state meet in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes during the 2019 state championship meet in Ohio.
A regional champ in the 100-meter dash, Carter had her best placing at the state championship meet in the 400-meter dash final, where she placed fourth.
During the 2020 indoor season she had sixth place finishes in both the 60 and 200 meters state championship races. Her versatility as a sprinter is going to make her one of the most valuable pieces of the program at Pitt. She's a strong relay runner as well.
Olechka Sukhanova
This Russian athlete and fitness trainer is starting to capture eyes on Instagram. Nearly at 10,000 followers, Olechka Sukhanova has some of the most beautiful modeling photos on a track and field course.
She also gives her followers views on her journey in the sport with a highlight timeline that shows her different stops at various destinations. Despite not having an English speaking account, her hard work on her physique and beauty are universal and help to make her an amazing follow.
Rene Medley
One of the most dominant collegiate sprinters of the past decade is Rene Medley. A Jamaican native continues the legacy that many of her countrymen have made in the sport of track and field. While she is proud of foundation that those before her have made, she is working to make her own name and not riding on the momentum of others.
"I'm not the next Elaine Thompson or Shellyann Fraser. I'm the first Rene Medley," she said in an Instagram post.
During the 2019 NCAA Division II outdoor championship meet, Medley of Lincoln University, crushed the competition with wins in the 100 and 200 meters along with grabbing victories with teammates in the 400- and 1,600-meter relays. That's right, she went four-for-four in national championship titles.
At last year's indoor championships Medley got wins in the 60-meter dash and 1,600 meter relay. She won her first two NCAA championships in 2018 when she captured the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter relay.
