Part XXV: Hot Summer Bods in Women's Sports & Fitness

The strong and the dominant

One thing that is beautiful is that we are in a society where women can be celebrated for being dominant competitors. In a time not so far away, many in society looked down upon women who displayed assertiveness in fields of competition such as basketball and track and field. A woman would be considered as less than feminine.

This summer series is furthering the cause of celebrating great women in sport and fitness. Welcome to the 25th edition of "Hot Summer Bods in Women's Sports & Fitness."

Dearica Hamby

Dearica Hamby of the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces has come off of her most successful career year after five seasons in the league.

A former full-time starter, Hamby found her stride as a reserve as she averaged career highs in scoring and rebounding. She was her team's top scorer off of the bench with an average of 11 points per game. She was second on the team in rebounding at 7.6 boards per contest.

Hamby's productivity led to her being named Sixth Woman of Year. Her rebounding average was the 10th best in the WNBA. She also had the ninth best defensive rating at 95.3.

In college Hamby competed for Wake Forest and led all players in the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring (20.3) and rebounding (10.7) during the 2014-15 season.

Mariya Moore

During her final collegiate season (2018-19) at USC, Mariya Moore had some big time performances. She had a 36-point performance in 38 minutes against California, where she knocked down 13-of-22 shots including 7-of-14 three-pointers. Her second 30-point game that season was against Oregon where she hit a season high 10-of-13 free-throws.

Prior to competing at USC, she played at Louisville for her first three seasons. Moore also won a gold medal during the 2015 FIBA Under-19 World Championships. During her 2014-15 season at Louisville, she became only the fourth freshman in school history to register over 100 assists.

Domonique Turner

During her senior indoor season at Tennessee, Domonique Turner was named All-American as a 60-meter hurdles competitor. In 2019 she was named Honorable Mention All-American in the 100-meter hurdles. Turner qualified for the NCAA championships in 2019 where she raced in the preliminary round.

Her Instagram Highlight feed that is entitled "M" is an entertaining look at her collegiate experience with her teammates. You can check her out in serious as well as silly moments with her teammates. It includes photo shoots, hanging out in the hotel and moments on the track.

During her high school years Turner was a state champion in the 100-meter hurdles when she ran at Osceola High School in Kissimmee, Florida.
