Part XXIX: Hot Summer Bods in Women's Sports & Fitness
Hotter than July

As we wrap up July, we continue our mission of celebrating great women during this turbulent summer. We got two track stars. One from the United States, the other currently a law student from Canada. We also have an outspoken pro basketball player, representing the WNBA.
Our subtitle reads "Hotter than July," and the music nerd in me just has to let you know that was a title of a Stevie Wonder album from the 1980s. On a daily basis these ladies live amazing lives with great accomplishments that are hot and blaze trails for women to follow for the future.
Without further delay, here is issue 29 of "Hot Summer Bods in Women's Sports & Fitness."
Jada Watson
Georgia State track star Jada Watson is on a path to becoming an eventual champ in the Sun Belt Conference. At this year's indoor conference meet, the junior placed third in the high jump. It was an improvement from last year's meet where she placed 10th.
She's been a key contributor to her program's success at the conference meet over the years. During the 2019 season she was on the third place 1,600 relay squad at the Sun Belt Outdoor championships. Watson has also had three fifth place finishes in the high jump during conference championships meets over her career.
Lexie Brown
At Duke, Lexie Brown was a three-time All-American and an ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Currently she competes in the WNBA for the Minnesota Lynx. In 2019 she was ninth in the league with a three-point shooting percentage of .385.
The 5-9 guard was Minnesota's top scorer off of the bench at 7.6 points per game. Brown made a team best 52 three-pointers connecting on a clip of .385, which was the second best on the squad.
Along with her athletic achievements, Brown shows that she has something to offer on the activist front. She speaks up for WNBA players who are in the forefront of social justice issues. "We are one of the few businesses, companies, organizations, whatever you want to call it, that is majority black women," Brown said.
"I always admire that about the WNBA. We're always front and center on social issues. No matter what issues they are. We fight so hard for ourselves, for other people. I love it. It's one of the reasons I wanted to be a part of this league. It's incredible. You look at anything that's going on in this world, you're going to see at least one WNBA player speaking up about it ... Say what you want about our league, you can't say that we don't make noise and we don't care about our people, our culture, our communities. You can't say that."
Tia Thevenin
Currently a law student, Tia Thevenin was a hurdler at Syracuse. Representing Ajax, Ontario, Canada, Thevenin captured wins during her final indoor season in 2018 season at the Cornell Deneault Memorial and the Great Dane Classic meets.
In 2017 she earned wins in at the Boston University Davide Hemery Valentine Invitational, Villanova Open and Ramapo College Season Opener. During the 2017 outdoor season she placed sixth in the ACC championship meet in the 100-meter hurdles final.
