Alphabet Islands - Prologue
There weren't always dragons in the valley at the centre of the mountainous island of Aversion Aerie, but there were now. These ones, not much bigger than a small horse or large pony, had appeared a generation or two ago, during the time of the Great Banishment. This was the source of no few jokes, told in naughty whispers awa from the hearing of their disapproving elders. This evolution also led to the Ace Arrows, apparently a pun that made the elders who were in on the joke scowl and mutter angrily, becoming perhaps the most formidible airforce in at least living memory.

... ~*MASTERS OF FLAME*~ ...
“There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Dragons were actually seeded here from another planet. The first pods that were jettisoned from the heavens were of many colors. And the colors signified the type of dragon that would emerge and the type of power that the beautiful creature would have, though everyone knows no matter what; that each highly evolved, spiritual being would yield immense power.

The Boy Who Hated Dragons
"There weren't always dragons in the Valley. In fact there weren't any for as many years most folk could remember," the old wizard said stroking the wiry gray fibers of his beard as the children listened intently. "What happened?" one of the children said while waving their right hand excitedly "Something bad I bet?" "Yes it was something like that," the wizard said blowing puffs of smoke from his long curled pipe. "You see there was once a time in which it was very dangerous to be a dragon. In fact even the idea of having scales was down right deadly."

Wayward Sons
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. The ghosts of the past never pulled at the King’s cloak so much, as when he climbed up the royal catacomb staircase cold and damp. He propped up the hatch above his head as the two of three Rivett sons emerged with him. Before this Nineteenth of Spectral Dowager, it never occurred to sandy-blond Hen how his makeshift fort was being singed; or that dark-haired Quade, who cleaned the castle kitchen so carefully that morning, would not see it intact again.

Echos of Remuz
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. Now, one scoured its coarse sand. Her tail, a long coat that swayed side to side below her knees. Way word granules nipped at the face beneath the hood. Her fangs were two blades. One slung at the waist in a timeworn scabbard. The other road along her back in an open sheath. Its bleached steel glinted the rays of the desert sun in a miraculous fashion. Her cerulean eyes carried a living flame that scorched them into a vivid violet. Her tanned skin, smooth as milk glass, was adored in leather and dragon scale battle armor. The crest of her gorget, the steel plate protecting her throat, a symbol of her people, was a monstrous beast blooding a man who screamed into oblivion. She, like that beast, she was a Dragon. She was Hazel Azul.

From The Depths, We Rise
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. In fact, I can't quite remember anything being in the valley. I just remember waking up one day in complete darkness. There was nothing at first. I couldn't feel, couldn't see, couldn't hear. Eventually, that complete numbness was replaced with the rough texture of rocks and distant rumblings of the earth.

Dragons Schmagons
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. Ever since the most recent gate opening, there are now dragons in the valley on Ptalis. Just another creature to watch out for is how I look at it. We’ll need more intel in order to figure out where they fit in with the hierarchy of the planet, but we’ll get that…eventually. They can’t hide. Too goddamn big. They also can’t be apex predators or else they’d be causing way more damage and chaos since their arrival. No, they can’t be apex. Who knows, maybe they’ll turn out to be a reasonable addition…something to train to help us, perhaps. But that will all require time to observe, and I don’t have the time and am already having doubts.

Prologue
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. But when they arrived, people were shocked to discover that the mythical beings are not only quite real but also very different from myth. For example, dragons don’t breathe fire. They don’t breathe fire in, and they don’t breathe fire out. They fly, but feathery wings carry their feathery bodies through the air, rather than hard-paneled wings projecting a hard-shelled body.
