Dragons Schmagons
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. Ever since the most recent gate opening, there are now dragons in the valley on Ptalis. Just another creature to watch out for is how I look at it. We’ll need more intel in order to figure out where they fit in with the hierarchy of the planet, but we’ll get that…eventually. They can’t hide. Too goddamn big. They also can’t be apex predators or else they’d be causing way more damage and chaos since their arrival. No, they can’t be apex. Who knows, maybe they’ll turn out to be a reasonable addition…something to train to help us, perhaps. But that will all require time to observe, and I don’t have the time and am already having doubts.

Random Acts of Kindness
Random acts of kindness should go without saying and not need a contest to bring out the best in people. In today’s complex world, it is sometimes rather difficult to show random acts of kindness without being looked upon as an oddity or crazy person. With the COVID pandemic on top of it all, there leaves little room for acts of kindness when everyone wears a masks or refuses to shake hands. However, words can affect people in very positive ways and can also be heard from behind a mask. Words are the backbone of our society, the way communities come together. Words affect another person’s mood and self-esteem. It is up to each and every one of us to use words in a positive way. This is how I will spread some kindness in my community.

My Boy Baxter
He loved the snow. My boy Baxter truly loved the snow. Somehow he could sense when it was snowing and all he wanted was to get out of the house and into it! He would sit on the wooden swing we had in the backyard and let it cover him while it was falling. Then he never wanted to come in when I thought he'd had enough time out in the cold. But this memory I am sharing is not only about me and Baxter. It includes my kid as well. It's a three-way memory that I was lucky enough to capture forever in a picture.

My Friend Oscar
I wonder if Mom will notice that I’m outside, thought Ellen. On clear nights like tonight she loved to lay in the grass behind the house and gaze up at the stars. I think I should become an astronomer when I grow up, she thought to herself. Maybe I’ll discover a brand new star? Or a whole star system? That would be so cool, she thought. The night wore on and she was desperately trying to keep her eyes open for just a little while longer. I probably shouldn’t sleep out here. There are all kinds of night animals that scare me. Just a few more minutes...
