Come Die With Me

Many people think that the six-sided cube they throw to play games is called a dice. It's not. Dice is a plural. The singular is Die.

We all play games, and I often play games with a Die and am always up for a game, a gamble or whatever.

Except this time a minor Demon had asked me to join him at a table to throw a Die.

What were we playing for?

If I win I get ten years of the Demon's servitude and if I lose I get ten years of absolute Hell and I could lose my soul as well.

So there is me and a Demon throwing Die on a wooden table, it's the best of five.

We both use the same Die so hopefully, there is no cheating though we don't trust each other.

The Demon throws a five, I throw a two. These are opposite faces of the Die. Two opposite faces always add up to seven.

The Demon throws a four, I throw a six, so we are even.

The Demon throws a two, I am confident in my throw, it rolls and rolls and lands on one. Damn!!

The Demon throws another two, I am hopeful I can retrieve this. I let the Die loose, it rolls and finishes with a three face up. We are even again.

It's time for the final throw.

The Demon grins, his rotten teeth dripping saliva.

He throws.

It's a six.

Feck, it's thrown a six, I can't beat that.

I'm staring at ten years of Hellish demonic servitude, I feel sick, but I make my final throw.

It rolls and rolls and rolls.

It comes to a stop.

The face reads six.

It's a draw.

Me: "Same time next week"

Demon: "Aye alright, but I will have you!

Me: "Or I might have you"

Demon: "We shall see"

Me: "We shall"
