We all love the sound “chocolate” that escapes our hungry mouths. You hear that and ears perk up like they’ve been waiting to hear that sound. Chocolate comes from all the way back to the Aztecs where cocoa beans were treated like money. Then, as Europe evolved it was brought to the rich and royals and it was a very bitter drink that only the wealthy could afford to buy. Then, chocolate started to change it got sweeter and sweeter and we are able to get it in solid form and enjoy it in a variety of flavours and ways. But it became sweet and delicious. When you want to feel good about your day you just need chocolate and it immediately gets better. So here’s a delicious chocolate cake recipe. However, this is the selfish version of a chocolate cake why? Because it serves one person as this is a personal mug cake that you can make in your very own microwave. A chocolate mug cake is a quick, single-serving dessert that's both indulgent and easy to make. Typically prepared in a microwave, it combines a few simple ingredients like flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, milk, and oil or butter. In just a few minutes, you have a rich, warm, and fudgy cake that’s perfect for satisfying a sudden sweet craving. Many variations also include add-ins like chocolate chips or a scoop of ice cream on top. The beauty of a chocolate mug cake lies in its simplicity and convenience, allowing you to enjoy a homemade treat with minimal effort and clean-up. That’s why I love it so much it’s great if you want to avoid making a mess and don’t want to spend time cleaning.
Ingredients:
¼ cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup white sugar
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
⅛ teaspoon baking soda
⅛ teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons canola oil
1 tablespoon water
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon of instant coffee
Instant coffee will elevate the taste of chocolate. This is to create the perfect mug cake within minutes. The nice thing about this amazing recipe is that all you need to do is mix the ingredients in a mug without using bowls. Then you put in the microwave for 1 minute and 45 seconds. However, if this depends on your microwave power because that varies from microwave to microwave. You can also replace oil with butter, especially if it comes out rubbery and funny tasting. I’ve personally used both and I just find oil makes it more moist.
Chocolate is often considered a comfort food due to its rich, smooth texture and ability to evoke feelings of happiness and relaxation. Its combination of sweetness, bitterness, and sometimes creaminess can trigger the release of endorphins, the brain’s "feel-good" chemicals, creating a sense of pleasure and contentment. The familiar taste of chocolate can bring a sense of nostalgia, reminding people of moments of comfort or indulgence. Whether it's a warm mug of hot chocolate on a cold day, a piece of dark chocolate after a long week, or a chocolate cake shared with loved ones, its comforting qualities make it a go-to choice for soothing the soul during stressful times or when seeking a moment of personal joy.
Remember, when you are having a bad day you can just make this dessert and all your troubles can melt away.
I remember one day when I waiting for the bus and the rain was pouring down, I was drenched as a car driving by splashed me and I was covered in head to toe in dirty water, my jeans were soaked and cold. I remember coming home and all I wanted to do was cry but then I remembered that the day can turn around. I made myself this cake and I ate it as I watched the outside world and I was glad I was warm and eating a chocolate mug cake.
