My Journey in Cooking
Cooking has never been my strong suit. There I said it. I come from a long line of established home cooks. Cooking is in the blood so to say, as we are all West Indians. As a rule, West Indian's are always in the kitchen cooking a vast amount of dishes almost all of them on the suicide side of spicy.

Male Bonding Need Not be Violent
When I was 18, I went hunting for the last time. That was the first and only time I ever shot a deer. I didn't like it. It's not that I think hunting is wrong. On the contrary, if we are going to continue to be an omnivorous species, knowing how to hunt, dress, and cook game is important -- especially if society eventually falls apart and we no longer have 6-burner stoves, fancy French skillets, and supermarkets. But, that's a topic for a different article.

Have a Slice of Savory Pie
England One of the most popular kinds of savory pies that come from England is Shepherd's Pie. It is more like a casserole than a pie but is still called pie. This is a delectable combination of minced lamb or mutton meat but can be made with ground beef. It includes onions, carrots, peas, Worcestershire sauce, thick gravy, and seasonings. Once placed in the baking pan they are all topped with buttery, creamy mashed potatoes and baked in the oven.

Lazy Nachos
Scene: some bar, Oskaloosa, Iowa. Two-year-old me sits in a barstool, because this is the early ninties, so you can totally just take a two-year-old into a bar. My Grandma Dee and Grandpa Shelk are sitting with me. That’s when I spot it: on the bar, a bowl of cheese dip. I know what it is, I’ve seen the grown ups eat it before. They use chips, in triangle or round shapes, and scoop it into their mouths. Sure enough, there’s a flat, geometric shape sitting on the bar next to me. I pluck it up, scoop up some dip, and bite down. The cheese is good, if a little spicy, but there’s something wrong with the chip. For some reason I can’t seem to bite all the way through it. Finally my grandmother turns around and sees what I’ve gotten up to in the five seconds she had her back turned. Laughing, she takes the cheese-covered drink coaster from me.

A Thai Snack For Super Bowl
Who loves to eat during Game Day? How can you not eat during Game Day? It is like going to see a movie at a theatre. How can you not consume a snack or a beverage while being entertained? Same thing with watching your favorite team playing against other teams. Or seeing how other teams are doing in the current NFL season. There is always an urge to eat whether it is a full meal or some junk food. There are meals like pizza, hoagies, tacos and even spaghetti. And then, you have the most popular snacks like popcorn, pretzels, potato chips, and my personal favorite, nachos. Those are the usual meals or snacks on Game Days.

Super Bowl LV
Hello 2021. As we are realizing much hasn’t changed since we said good-bye to 2020 just a couple of months ago. Do we even remember where we were celebrating last year’s Super Bowl? I’m sure I was hosting a Super Bowl party at my house. I usually do a Super Bowl party at home, because, let’s face it; it’s on a Sunday night and it starts at 6:30 pm and my pjs are very close by once the champagne starts flowing in the locker rooms.

What is a Sous Vide? And How it Changed Cooking in Our Home
Let me start this article by informing you that I have no cooking experience and neither does my fiancé. In a modern Canadian society its not uncommon for people our age (mid 20's) to be helpless in the kitchen, when there are so many take-out options readily available to us. Not to mention one of our other challenges was time. Him being a general manager of franchise and myself owning a small business most the time we are two passing ships, rarely home at the same time, and when we are neither of us feels so inclined to volunteer hours of our day off to slaving in the kitchen, when there is so much else that needs doing around the house. We would try once and a while to cook up something special but most efforts were futile and ended with a call to our local pizza place or a frozen lasagna.
