Horseradish mash with chicken and gravy :

This dish is perfect for the colder months as horseradish is a very handy ingredient when it comes to coughs and colds. Horseradish is a brilliant natural antioxidant and it also antibacterial, its brilliant at clearing your sinuses. Horseradish can be a bit spicy but I've always found that when its mixed into mash potatoes its more of a beautiful warming sensation with a lovely taste! this is such a simple recipe it doesn't need much detail but its sometime that's great to know about. Horseradish is also useful for urinary tract infections, reduces inflammation, aid in weight loss and supports immunity. Remember in natural healing you must always use things in moderation as natural medicine can cause adverse side effects when used incorrectly. Children and pregnant women should avoid horseradish. If you have health conditions its always worth talking to your doctor before using any remedies at home.

You will need:

chicken ; i used a breast from a roasted chicken.

gravy; either homemade or granules.

horseradish.

potatoes.

butter.

milk.

salt and black pepper.

Method:

Start off by peeling and boiling your potatoes until they are soft and fluffy. Then drain them and in the pan you cooked them in add the cooked potatoes back in , a small blob of butter , a splash of milk and then mash until its at the consistency you desire and season with your salt and black pepper. Once mashed add your horseradish , this will depend on the amount of mash you've made , for a single serving i use two tea spoons of horseradish , for larger servings you will need to add more. Add one tea spoon at a time , mixing it in well , taste test and then add more if needed. For the chicken; I roasted a whole chicken in the oven for about 1 hour and 20 minutes, in a baking pan i placed the chicken and added slices of lard to the top and then for the first 20 minutes in the oven it was covered over with foil before removing the foil and cooking for the hour uncovered. Gravy can be made with boiled water and granules or homemade gravy made from the chicken juices, vegetable water , flour and gravy browning. In a saucepan add the juices and vegetable water and slowly whisk in flour to thicken the mixture. Once you have the desired consistency of your gravy you can season with salt and black pepper and add in small amounts of gravy browning to colour your gravy. Plate up you chicken and mash and smother in your favourite gravy! Vegetables are a great addition to this dish, broccoli or asparagus being my top suggestions.

You'll often find that there is many simple recipes that are absolutely incredible for healing our bodies naturally and even plenty of them suited for people on low budgets and little time to cook. This is one of the more simple recipes I will be sharing but look out for more to come. Each one will note the healing abilities of the main ingredients included. my next recipe with be ; Spinach and mushroom pasta , which includes chicken, garlic and sesame seeds and oil, a great dish that includes powerful antioxidant and antifungal ingredients , natural aphrodisiacs and rich in many vitamins and minerals! With autumn now in full swing ill also be adding some recipe's up with traditional samhain foods for feasting and some great halloween treats to make at home with your kids.
