Unlucky
Kamau has been the sole provider for his family for as long as he can remember. His mother died two years after he was born, and no one really talks about her. His father had met her while traveling to the large market a hundred kilometers from home. She was selling arrowroots, and she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen—her skin was lighter than anyone he had ever encountered.

How coming from the 'perfect family' has created hardships in my life
I grew up in an idyllic middle-class family: parents happily married for 40+ years, two siblings that I have great relationships with, no abuse, no poverty, a childhood I look back on fondly. My dad worked incredibly hard to provide for us as the sole breadwinner and my mom was a dedicated homemaker. We went to church on Sundays and ate dinner together most nights. I've always felt like my family was picture-perfect.

Gone Too Soon
Oh DEATH who are you? I HATE YOU. You visited me when I wasn't READY. Never got a chance to say goodbye. WHY. I hope someday this whole concept OF DEATH AND DYING will make moresense to me/us. Sometimes I feel there was a sign, signaling our separation. If really there were signs, then I must admit that I failed to see the signal light. I zoomed pass the stop sign before realizing that I beat the light. My baby brother, permit me tell you that I must have failed seeing the signals you showed me. Yes, looking back to our last days in this planet EARTH, I can begin to see some traces of the RED light signals you projected. I remember one of them which sounded so strange coming from you.
