Life with Athena...
In my life, I've had two significant companions: 1) girlfriends and 2) cats. I'm still trying to determine which of the two is more stubborn. But that's a different tale altogether. Let me introduce you to my favorite feline, “Athena Missy Harty.”

I'm here and I'm ready!. Runner-Up in New Year, New Projects Challenge.
It's 2025. Vocal wants to know what my resolution is for this new year. It may just be a wording type of thing but my resolutions are not exactly the same as my goals and projects. My resolutions were created as a response to things that occurred in 2024. They are simply, 1) Be my own advocate, best friend and love myself. 2) Do not beg anyone to love me or spend time with me. If they want to be with me, be my friend, I won't have to beg, Now my goals and planned projects have been a work in progress for the past 7 years. It's almost like I recently graduated. I'll explain.

Wooden Ears
This was written for Mother Combs "Wooden" VIM FB Challenge. Hope y'all enjoy it! -Sam _______________________ Always sitting my hand cupped against my wooden ear, it's amazing when one is a statue what they can hear. -- Oh yes, us statues have once breathed in our creator's life, so we sit still yet here amid the happiness as well as the strife. -- Last week little Joey stole Ricky's balloon, Lucy's mom was late picking her up although she kept saying she'll be here soon. -- The snow fell down hard overnight, which made every thing in the park so very clean and bright. -- I like the snow, it gets so peaceful and serene. People just seem nicer, if you know what I mean. -- The kids are the best part. They still have so much to do and look forward to. They haven't grown cruel or jaded, they still believe in magic and miracles and I can tell the ones where greatness is fated. -- Some tell me their secrets, hopes and dreams. There's a lot more in their small hearts and minds than it would seem. -- So I'll sit here and listen for whatever the day brings, the children playing, the dogs barking, and birds as they sing. -- I've nowhere to go, plus I've grown accustom to this place and these beautiful creatures called the human race. _____________________

A Waiter's Poem
____________________________ Her eyes glowed in the soft candle light Breath fogged champagne glass mixed with lipstick prints, I can still see her smile and smell the heady aroma of her scent. --,-'-{@ Moonlight poured in to the sacred space we were soon to lay our heads, though it was blistering cold outside, it'd be warm inside her bed. --,-'-{@ On walls where yearning shadows would soon dance, we'd make love like it was our last chance. We would hold each other in a passionate embrace unmatched, by throwing our entire souls into it until the emotions finally unlatched. --,-'-{@ She'd proclaim her feelings for me because she couldn't hold it back, she'd shout it from the balcony, for she'd want all the world to know how very much she loves me. --,-'-{@ My heart would grow 10 times larger that very night, if I could only get her to notice me, my life would finally take flight. ____________________________

Time...
Life is fleeting. Something I realized with aging. One moment you are 22, going out dancing, laughing with friends, pushing the bad memories down deep and living your life moment by moment with little care. Then you're 45 with family, responsibilities, a job. Time becomes constraining. You can't do whatever, whenever you want anymore. You wish to be 22 again. But time doesn't go backwards and suddenly you are 63 with more time than people and plans. Days pass slowly and memories aren't made as often. It's odd how time can drag on at the same time it is rapidly running out. You wish to be 45 again.

Wonder Woman Saved Me!
Seeking Wonder Woman A Facebook group I belong to, Vocal+Assist, encouraged us to share stories about women who embody qualities like being Wonderful, Strong, Powerful, and Admirable. Instantly, my thoughts went to my mother, a single parent raising four kids, who was like a supercharged Mary Tyler Moore! However, she passed away 50 years ago, and while she loved me deeply, she was unable to support me in the ways I truly needed as a child, especially since I was grappling with being Gay and facing abuse without her awareness.
