How this boarder came into subcontinent. Content Warning. AI-Generated.
This is the Golden Temple. People come here from all over the world to bathe in its waters, to look at the Holy Book that is inside of this middle Golden Temple and to just experience the holiness of this place. This place is the epicenter of Sikhism. It sits right here in northern India in a city called Amritsar. Close by there's another important Sikh site called Kartarpur. It was established by the founder of Sikhism more than 500 years ago. It's the place where he spent the last years of his life and it is the second holiest place in Sikhism. For centuries, Sikhs have been able to make pilgrimage between these two sites to move freely throughout their heartland. But in 1947 a British lawyer drew a border here turning what had been British India into two new countries, India and Pakistan. I could only call it one of the most bizarre lines, which were ever drawn across a map It went right here with the Golden Temple on one side and Katarpur on the other. Thanks to this border Sikhs in India are now cut off from their holy site. So many come here to a platform that the Border Patrol set up. The platform looks across the border where with the help of telescopes, Sikhs can look at their holy place just three or four kilometers away. In addition to cutting off communities from their sacred sites, this border separated families, cut across rivers, forests, farms, railroad tracks. Today this border is heavily fortified with nearly all 3,000, plus kilometers fenced. It's lit so well that you can see it from space and barely anything or anyone crosses over it When we talk about the drawing of the line, what was the most painful was the division of families which took place and that is a very big reality. This is the story of a violent separation. One of the most traumatic events of the 20th century It's the story of how a hastily drawn line on a map separated one people into two. This is a horror story. What we saw was a town soaked with the stench of death. In the train of murder and arson, come the refugees. Their suffering is the new tragedy of India. Many will never reach their new land. These are the things that are setting the heart burning on either side of the line. The sun is setting and I'm walking along one of the oldest roads in Asia One that used to connect this region but today a border runs through it and instead of connection and trade what you see here is this: There's barbed wire, there's fences, there are officers everywhere and yet, there's also ice-cream and popcorn and paraphernalia. This feels like a sporting event. You can buy keychains of machine guns. Thousands of spectators file in, filling this stadium that looks down on the border. On the other side Pakistanis are doing the same. Then, both sides start their different show. Two hours of chanting and dancing Then the finale, a face-off between the two sides. They strut back and forth in this coordinated choreography and it all ends with the lowering of each flag and the closing of this gate. This bizarre border show plays out every evening. But this ceremony, this fence, this intense nationalism If you rewind just a little in time, none of this existed. The British controlled parts of India for nearly 200 years but by 1947, a strong movement of independence was swelling across the subcontinent

RED CEA. Content Warning. AI-Generated.
- [Narrator] The Red Sea. A special idyll of the Orient. A place of silence, strength and diversity. The Red Sea is famous for its high salt content which especially contributes to clear water. Algae can't spread easily here. This is why its broad coral reefs can be considered a true paradise for divers. We can find lots of highlights of marine life here. There are a lot of colorful shoals of fish, popular anemone fish, basses, vigilant morays, odd pufferfish, and, of course, elegant turtles. The biggest attraction is colorful coral reefs shining in the sunlight. From the Earth's orbit, we can clearly spot the elongated form of the Red Sea. It is a narrow sea, 2,240 kilometers long, up to 2,604 meters deep, that borders the Indian Ocean and lies between Northeast Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. The Red Sea contains about 200,000 cubic kilometers of water. Its surface is spread over 438,000 square kilometers and the water is on average 538 meters deep. A good question would be why it is called the Red Sea. There have already been several interpretations for it since antiquity. On the one hand, blue algae grows in this stretch of water. ost all of these fish are females. Usually, only one fiftieth of the group are male. At first, adult fish are always females that later turn into males. But that mostly just happens if a male fish dies. If that is the case, the strongest female of the group transforms into a male fish in just a couple of days, to take its place. Another resident of the reef is the soft coral. Even though it is related to the stone and fire coral, it has a totally different structure. It gets its stability from inner water pressure. Its limbs and strains are not covered in polyps. Those are located at the ends of the arms. The soft corals' colors are usually brown, yellow or green. If it lives in the shadows, it has a bright red, orange or purple color. Mostly, they are located on the edges of reefs, overhangs or on the ceilings of caves. Corals are really important for a lot of fish. They provide shelter for small and normal sized ones. That's why they are almost always surrounded by huge swarms. If there's an enemy, they can instantly hide between the branchy corals and are almost unreachable for big predators. The coral's ability to emit stinging poison is a huge advantage here, too. Although, the fish have to be careful not to come into contact with the defense polyps, because otherwise they themselves might be the victims. Because of natural barriers and because of the environment influencing those animals in a special way, many unique species which can't be found anywhere but the Red Sea have developed over millions of years. One of those creatures is the popular clownfish. This genus here is also known as Red Sea anemonefish. They eat plankton and algae and are comparatively small. 15 centimeters is the maximum. The clownfish lives closely in a so-called symbiosis with anemones. That means, as we have just learned about the corals, that two different species both profit from living together. Surprisingly, clownfish are able to live with are toxic. Why doesn't it disturb the clownfish? Very simple. It possesses a slime layer which protects it from the deadly poison. The anemonefish protects the anemone, driving out predators like, for example, butterflyfish. In return, the anemone protects the rotting carcasses. But still, bigger morays are pretty modest about the search for food and so only.

Why is this number everywhere?. Content Warning. AI-Generated.
- Let me show you something unbelievable. Name a random number between 1 and 100. - 61. - Okay, that's pretty random. - [Emily] Just name a random number from 1 to 100, random. - 43. - 43, thank you so much. - 56. - 7. - I want the most random number between 1 and 100, like totally random. - 11. - 37. - [Interviewee] 79. - 79, thank you so much. - 91. - 7. - 3. - 37. - [Derek] 37. - 37, yeah. - [Derek] Why 37? - I dunno, it's the first number that came to my mind. - 44. - 27. - 37. - 72. - 4. - 13. - 7. - 37. - [Emily] Really? (Derek speaking in foreign language) - 13. - 7. - 37. - 37? - 73. - 37. - 35. - 37. - [Emily] 37, no way! - 43. - 2. - 37. (Derek gasping) - I knew you were gonna do it. He just "37-ed" and walked away. - Between 1 and 100. - Ah, no thanks. - [Emily] Okay. - 37. - [Emily] Oh, perfect. Thank you so much. - 83. - 37. - 37. - 87. - 55. - 37. - 37. (Emily gasping) Can I shake your hand? - [Derek] I love the thought you're putting into this. - 37? - No, you are kidding me! Are you real? - Yeah why? - Did we ask you this already? - No. - Random number between 1 to 100. - 37. - 37. Oh, my gosh, yes. - [Derek] Name a random number between 1 and 100. - 37. - Are you kidding me? Why? - It's a good number, I guess, any number. - [Derek] Where did that come from? - Imagination, I suppose. - So, what's going on? Well, people are actually really bad at selecting things randomly. In fact, when asked to pick a color and a number, people reliably select blue and 7 the most across dozens of different cultures. Psychologists have a name for this pattern. The blue-seven phenomenon. And when picking a random number between 1 and 100, it has long been suggested that the equivalent of the blue-seven phenomenon is the number 37. My producer, Emily, and I spoke to hundreds of people to test this theory. The most common answer was 7, but maybe that's because people just expected that we'd ask them for numbers between 1 and 10. The most common two-digit number really was 37, much to our surprise. (Derek and Emily gasping) So we decided to embark on the biggest investigation ever on the number 37. And it took us to some unexpected places. - I think 37 is a fascinating number. It's just really interesting because it turns up so much. How many objects are there here in the room with us that have a 37 on them? I'm sure there's more than 1,000 here. I built the 37 Website in 1994. I started getting email from strangers, it's everywhere. I'm trying to collect them all. We're tireless. The tireless cabal of 37 people, yeah.was 37. two reasons.- Let me show you something unbelievable. - 79,76,76 and other number with 37 words .thankyou .

The future of energy storage beyond lithium ion. Content Warning. AI-Generated.
Over the past decade, prices for solar panels and wind farms have reached all time lows, leading to hundreds of gigawatts worth of new renewable energy generation. As the saying goes though, the wind isn't always blowing and the sun isn't always shining. If, for example, it's a beautiful sunny day and we've got a super abundance of electricity, we can't use it. The question of how to firm renewables, that is, ensuring there's always energy on demand no matter the time of day or weather, is one of the biggest challenges in the industry. We need a good way to store energy for later. And the main option right now is lithium ion batteries. You see them in products like Tesla's home battery, the Powerwall and utility-scale system, the Powerpack. But though lithium ion is dropping in price, experts say it will remain too expensive for most grid-scale applications. To get to battery for the electrical grid, we need to look at a further cost reduction of 10 to 20x. Right now, lithium ion batteries just can't store more than four hours worth of energy at a price point that would make sense. Plus, they pose a fire risk and their ability to hold a charge fades over time. To address this, there's acadre of entrepreneurs experimenting with a variety of different solutions. Now we're seeing flow batteries, which are liquid batteries, and we're seeing other forms of storage that are not chemical or battery-based storage. And each has serious potential. We looked at materials on the periodic table that were actually going to be cost competitive from day one. Primus Power's flow battery is a workhorse. Thermal energy storage has a pretty unique opportunity to be extremely low cost. Our solution will last 30 plus years without any degradation in that performance.Which technologies prevail remains to be seen. But one thing is clear. For renewables to truly compete with fossil fuels, we need to figure out a better way to store energy. From 2000 to 2018, installed wind power grew from 17,000 megawatts to over 563,000 megawatts. And solar power grew from a mere 1,250 megawatts to485,000 megawatts. And it's not stopping there. Renewables are expected to grow an additional 50 percent over the next five years. We know today that solar P.V. and wind are the least expensive way to generate electricity. In particular, the price of solar photovoltaics has plummeted far faster than all forecasts predicted, after China flooded the market with cheap panels in the late 2000s. All the Wall Street analysts did not believe that solar was going to ever stand on its own without subsidies. Well, a few years later, even the most conservative analysts started realizing that actually solar was going to become economic in most parts of the world pretty quickly. And as solar has gotten cheaper, so too have lithium ion batteries, the technology that powers electric vehicles, our cell phones and laptops. And thanks to improved manufacturing techniques and economies of scale, costs have fallen 85 percent since 2010. Now, wind or solar plus battery storage is oftentimes more economical than peaker plants, that is, power plants that only fire when demand is high. Tesla, for example, built the world's largest lithium ion battery in Australia, pairing it with a wind farm to deliver electricity during peak hours. But this doesn't mean lithium ion is necessarily economical for other grid applications. We don't really see the cost structure coming down to the point where it can serve those tens to hundreds of hours applications. The future of power energy is therefore good .

How to become 37.78 times better at anything. Content Warning. AI-Generated.
Do you ever feel like you're just floating through life...but not actually getting closer to the person that you want to be. It usually happens around New years, you imagine all the bad habits your going to break free from, and all the good habits you will begin. “This time it will be different” you say to yourself. This time I AM going to do the things that I say I will. Only to end up back where you began shortly after and no closer to what you had envisaged. So the question is, how do you become the person you dream of becoming? How do you break free from bad habits and make the habits you desire easier and automatic? h massive action in any goal we are pursuing. We expect ourselves to make some quantum leap or momentous improvement that will gain others attention. However it is the tiny improvements, that aren’t even noticeable at first, that create incredible change. Let’s look deeper into the Math 1% better every day for a year will compound to nearly 38 times better. 1% worse every day for over a year will bring you close to zero! Your habits can compound against you in the form of things like stress or negative self-talk. Or they can compound for you in the form of things like knowledge, productivity, skills and relationships. “Success is the product of daily habits—not once-in a lifetime transformations”,wve anything we want in life-getting into better shape, building a successful business, spending more time with family is to set specific, realistic goals. But if you completely ignored your goals and focused only on your system, would you still succeed? The Author argues that you would. Here are some problems with only having goals. Successful and unsuccessful people share the same goals, so therefore the goal can not be what differentiates winners from losers. Achieving a goal only changes your life for a moment in time. Goals can create an either-or conflict. Either you achieve the goal and succeed, or you don’t and you are a failure. Even if you were making progress in the right direction When you achieve a goal, what do you do after? If your goal was running the local marathon, chances are after completing it, your motivation will quickly fade and you will just slip back into your old routines. “Goals are good for setting a direction, but systems are best for making progress” A SYSTEM OF ATOMIC HABITS The problem with changing your habits is not you. The reason why you repeat the same bad habit for so long isn't because you don't want to change, but because you have the wrong system for change. Atomic habits are small routines and behaviors that accumulate to produce incremental positive outcomes over time. Big breakthroughs tend to get more attention than small improvements. But what really matters are the little daily decisions and actions we take. “Just as atoms are the building blocks of molecules, atomic habits are the building blocks of remarkable results”. There are 3 layers to behavior change. The first layer is changing outcomes. The result. Losing that weight, writing that book, winning the season. The outcomes are what you get The Second layer is changing your process. What you doe and location—will help you achieve your goals. Clearly state your intention to act using the following formula: I will behavior at time in this location. Here is a bad example, “I will read more this month” Here is a good example when you practice what you like becoming or what you like doing

PROOFREADING TUTORIAL. Content Warning. AI-Generated.
So, what’s the big deal about proofreading? Good writing is about a lot more than good grammar, just like basketball is about more than good dribbling. So why this obsession over typos, misspellings and grammar slips? Two reasons. First, judgment. Someone who doesn’t know a dangling participle from a dangling dinner guest can spot a typo. That typo can then be used to negatively judge you, your writing, even your intelligence. Don’t believe me? Here’s an article from the Harvard Business Review entitled “I Won’t Hire People Who Use Poor Grammar.” Author Kyle Wiens is CEO of iFixit. This CEO writes: People who mix up their “its” and “it’s” deserve to be passed over for a job, even if they are otherwise qualified for the position. I have a ‘zero tolerance approach’ to grammar mistakes that make people look stupid. Although there is no known relationship between obviously does not prevent others, whether employers or professors, from judging you based on easy-to-spot surface errors. This second reason might surprise you: It’s impossible too oops! need to correct that typo) impossible to accurately proofread your own writing. This fact makes it likely you’ll leave some type of error unless you take active measures. Why can’t you proofread your own work accurately? When writing, your mind creates a mental image of meaning that you attempt to transfer to the page. The catch is, while your mental image may be perfect, what ends up on the page may not be. When someone else reads your writing, the process happens in reverse: The reader looks first at the words on the page and then constructs a mental image. What a difference! You, the writer, have lying on top of the page, like a piece of wax paper, your perfect mental image that can prevent you from seeing clearly what’s there. The reader, on the other hand, sees the cold reality of the page, black squiggles on a white background, without any filter. That’s why the first proofreading tip is to ICE IT--put the writing away until your mental image has faded and no longer obscures the reality of what’s on the page. But the problem with ICE IT is time--It can take days or weeks for the mental image to fade enough. Few people, least of all students, have that time. We need tools we can apply immediately. One of the best is text-to-speech. These software programs let you hear what you wrote in someone else’s voice. In other words, you get to process your writing as a listener, not its creator. There are literally 100s of free text-to-speech programs out there that do the job. Our favorite is NaturalReader.com. It’s free, web-based (nothing to download) and offers drag and drop simplicity. NaturalReader can read 10 types of documents, has 18 English voices, and speed control in its free version. Many other text-to-speech programs can be found at review sites like TechRadar.com and elearning.com. The bottom line: Listening to someone else read your document helps you know what is and isn’t on the page. Another exciting technology for writers is the new AI-based spelling, style and grammar checkers. “Wait a minute,” you say, “Microsoft Word has offered its built-in auto checker since 1995!” And you’re right. But Word’s checker uses simple algorithms based on matching. Today’s advanced grammar, spelling and style checkers use artificial intelligence to understand the context of what is written, to make predictions and give insights about your writing. There’s no comparison between the simple spellcheckers of old and today’s advanced systems. Currently there are two of these products—Grammarly and Ginger.

What happens when you start eating healthy. Content Warning. AI-Generated.
so what happens to your body when you start eating healthy here are some things you'll notice immediately and hopefully we'll keep eating healthy in the future now I was thinking about this the other day when I was watching a lecture about climate change you might say well what does climate change have to do with eating healthy well the whole point of this lecture was that climate change doesn't necessarily impact you right where you are at that time the impacts regarding climate change and how it relates to you are distant and maybe somebody who lives far away it may be 20 years in the future maybe even your grandkids and it's really hard to make yourself make changes for things that are not impacting you immediately we all have this problem you know if you put your hand on the stove and it hurts you're going to take your hand away and you're never going to touch it again but if you eat some sugary foods and 30 years later you're at risk for a heart attack that's a much harder Association to make and change to make based on those things so today I'm going to give you some things that you can pay attention to that maybe will happen quickly so you can be motivated to make healthy changes and continue to lead a healthier life I'm Doctor Blake Schusterman I'm a board certified kidney doctor and I'm also the cooking Doc and everything we talk about here today is just for information make sure you subscribe to my channel click the like button hit that Bell so you never miss a new recipe or a new health tip every week I want to give you one piece of information make you more knowledgeable so that you can lead a healthier lifestyle and better your health in many ways so the first thing you'll notice when you start eating healthier foods is you'll want healthier foods in the future believe it or not but the more you eat them the more you'll want them later and the more your body will get used to them so you kind of have to just get over that hump and then your body will keep asking for you to be healthy next and this is my favorite one you're gonna feel better pay attention to how you feel after you have a big heavy meal or fast food you probably don't feel so good but if you've eaten a lighter meal that still tastes good but that doesn't have so many calories or fat or salt your body will actually feel better especially if you've made that food at home pay attention to your body it'll tell you how you feel after you eat and if you pay attention you'll notice that healthier food makes you feel better you know what else you're going to feel you're going to feel more confident now how does confidence have to do with how you're eating I'll tell you when you make a decision and you make a change to do something better your health you're going to be proud of yourself and you should be because it's not easy but making a decision to go on a walk or exercise or create a healthy meal will make you feel better about yourself not only will your body feel better but you're going to be more confident and you're going to want to keep making decisions to keep up that confidence to make you feel better make you feel .

ANCIENT ALIENS. Content Warning. AI-Generated.
Librarian Ernst man uses his extensive knowledge of mathematics to decipher the dots and symbols of a 12th-century Maya text known as the Dresden Codex. In doing so, he unlocks the secrets of the Maya calendar. The Maya have what's widely understood as the most sophisticated ancient calendar ever made. It involves so many different cycles. It's so sophisticated, in fact, that early scholars thought that the Maya were, as they called, esoteric time worshipers. The Maya are very interested in the cycles of life. So a lot of their calendars were created to track those cycles and look for harmonies between cycles to better harmonize themselves with the natural world. ANDREW COLLINS: The long count calendar of the Maya lasted for 5,125 years. It was backdated to have begun in 3114 BC, which meant that it actually ended on December 21, 2012. And many of us will remember how it was believed that there was gonna be a time of great transformation, possibly the end of the world. NARRATOR: In 2012, over a thousand years after the fall of the Maya civilization, their calendar became known to people all around the world. Many believed that the final date on the calendar was intended to mark an apocalyptic event. BARNHART: The idea that the Maya predicted the end of the world was really just a Western misunderstanding of how their calendar works and what they were using their calendar for. Westerners see time as a line, it goes back into the past and forward into the future, and we're the point in the middle. The Maya saw time as a cycle that kept going like the hands of a clock. When it hit 12, it didn't just explode, it just went back around for another loop. So Maya calendar systems were set up to be never-ending cycles. NARRATOR: While the Maya were exceptional at tracking time and observing the heavens, archaeologists were astounded when they discovered that this ancient culture was tracking what is known in astronomy as precession. Precession is the wobbling of the Earth on its axis which changes the location of constellations in the night sky. It's actually a huge cycle that lasts 26,000 years. And the Maya, without a shadow of a doubt, were calculating precession. They were able to say, back in the distant past, this planet would've been in that constellation. NARRATOR: Scholars remain mystified as to how the Maya came to have such an advanced understanding of astronomy, mathematics and timekeeping, and answers have been difficult to come by, since a large portion of the Maya's writing and artifacts have been lost or destroyed over the centuries. There was a big cultural shift between about 900 and 1200 AD, and one of the prevailing theories about the end of Maya civilization was that basically they taxed their resources, that they created an unstable landscape that then lent itself to landslides, to fires, to floods, and that can lead to societal collapse. NARRATOR: In the 16 century, Spanish conquistadors arrived in the Maya cities of the Yucatán Peninsula. They found the sites sparsely populated or even abandoned, with many structures already in ruins. And while Spanish colonizers were the first Europeans to record their accounts of the Maya culture, they were also responsible for destroying much of the Maya's own history. When the Spanish showed up, they wanted to convert them to Christianity. Step one in that process is dividing them from their traditional wisdoms. And those were written in the books. So, the Spanish on purpose burned every document they could find .
