The Ceremony
Blood poured down my face and drenched my naked form. It covered the symbols etched into my body, dripping onto the ground. Power engulfed me, even as pain ripped through my lower body. A scream tore from my throat. The flames surrounding me flared in response.

My Vocal Archives
Note: I have borrowed this excellent concept from Matthew Fromm. You can check out his library at the link below. As with Matthew Fromm’s library, my archives will be pinned to my profile for easy access and updated regularly. I also indicate my favorites for each category, each Top Story, and the genre of the fictional stories.

Horror Story Roundup
With Halloween less than seven weeks away, I wanted to gather up all my tales of horror to get my readers in the mood for the holiday season. Some are incredibly short, and at least one is incredibly long, but I think that all are worth a look for those who are in the mood for something a little dark or twisted.

Thorn's Last Stand
The white dragon swooped down to the cave etched into the mountain. As he landed on the ledge, his body disappeared, replaced by the figure of a young man with scaly white wings. He approached the pedestal in the center of the cave, opening the satchel hanging from his shoulder and taking out an onyx egg.

It's Not a Lot, But It's My Life
In response to Kayleigh Fraser’s Get to Know Me #Challenge, I have decided to pick up the gauntlet and type up ten random facts about myself. (It would be embarrassing to tell you how long it took me to come up with anything worth mentioning…)

Why I Write
Why do I write? That’s a question that I’ve been asking myself a lot lately. The answer used to come to me so easily, but now, it evades me. I suppose that’s what happens when you mix pleasure with work; pleasure becomes work, and you forget why you love what you love in the first place. So much beta reading, editing, and now ghost writing have caused me to forget why I love the thing that has been the core of my identity for so many years. Even writing for Vocal has been more work than pleasure at times, leaving me floundering to rediscover my writing self.

My Potential
Fourteen years. It has been fourteen years since I wrote my first true short story, “Model Wedding”. As cliché as it is, I have written stories and poems for as long as I can remember, and so there are poems and chapters of stories that exist before “Model Wedding”. However, this story is the first time that I can remember writing a complete piece of fiction, where my true passion in writing lies. It was written for the Stanford Gifted Youth Program—an ungraded summer program for high school students gifted in different academic areas—and, at the time, it was my proudest accomplishment. Even the instructor, a published short story writer, praised it, particularly the revision.
