Pumpkin Ick

A controversial take on a seasonal flavor

Pumpkin spice! Pumpkin spice! Oh, why so much pumpkin spice?

What have I done to be surrounded so much in this life

By such a disgusting, repulsive flavoring?

It’s just a few months out of the year, they say,

But look! It’s in our cookies, our creamer, our coffee—

And it’s only August, still eighty, ninety, one hundred degrees,

No fall in sight, only blistering summer heat.

Please, please, marketing gods, set me free

And spare me of this season-bending monstrosity

Born weeks too early, a bright Orange reminder of a world broken

By commercial desires and corporate greed.

And don’t get me started on the mint.

I despise it, too. Glad I am less alone in this matter. Have a candy cane cappuccino...? ;)
