Away from the Crowds in South Carolina
On John’s Island, you’ll find the impressive and beautiful Angel Oak. Growing and thriving in Charleston, this is one of the oldest living oak trees east of the Mississippi. It is estimated to be between 400 and 500 years old and has survived several hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes. The branches of the oak spread out in all directions. Its name comes from the Angel Estate. Local legends say the ghosts of former slaves appear as angels around the oak.

Silver Screen Magic with Hedy Lamarr
Hedy Lamarr was an Austrian and American actress and inventor. After a brief early film career in Czechoslovakia, she fled from her first husband, Friedrich Mandl, and secretly moved to Paris. Traveling to London, she met Louis B. Mayer, who offered her a film contract in Hollywood. Lamarr became a film star with her first performance in the romantic drama “Algiers.” In 1960 the actress was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Block Island National Wildlife Refuge is home to all kinds of creatures. There are over 70 songbird species filling the air with song as well as rare beetles. The remote beaches are good for exploring and relaxing. On the island you can picnic and go fishing. Take part in informative and educational guide-led wildlife walks. The island is connected to the mainland by ferry.

Somebody to Love
Jefferson Airplane came in on the wave of the psychedelic rock of the 1960s. They are one of the pioneering bands of the San Francisco sound. The band featured a revolutionary blend of folk rock and acid rock. They made out-of-this-world performances at the festivals Monterey Pol and Woodstock. Many of their albums were chart toppers.
