Love Needs No Reason

An inspired poem and a crazy song

By Rasma RaistersPublished about 5 hours ago 2 min read

This inspirational piece came to mind when I remembered how my dad had danced on a street corner in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, N.Y. with me when I was only two as we waited for my mom to come up the block from the subway after work.

She love him so

His incredible and silly ways

He made her day and her night

There were times he made her laugh

Till she thought the world would join in

He never had a serious moment

So he’d chosen to be a gardener

Where he could prance and dance

Down garden paths

That just was his way

That crazy way he had

And that was what made her

Love him so

She’d join him when he created and decorated

And she always vowed

That all the plants and trees and bushes

Just loved to hear him sing

Her friends would tell her

That he was a lunatic

But because he was so very different

Was what she loved the most

He was an incredible artist

And everyone who wanted a topiary

Demanded him far and wide

He made enchanting gardens

With winged horses and unicorns

There were dancing maidens

And snarling cats

There were creatures

No one had ever seen before

They came from his imagination

Which never ceased to amaze her

In the summertime it was the best time

Whenever his work was done

They’d have a picnic under the moonlight

With all his topiary creatures surrounding them

There were times as he sang to her

His guitar softly strumming in the dark

She’d gaze up at the stars above

Expecting to see his winged horses taking flight

And she had no doubt

To say yes when he proposed

She knew she wanted no other kind of life

So they were married in one of his gardens

There among the prancing creatures

And her heart knew great joy

The picture that she would treasure

All the rest of her life

Was on the day

When her love and their daughter

Who was only but two

Did a dance of joy

Down a garden lane

He saw tall and she saw small

Their shadows bobbing and hopping in the sunlight

As he gleefully shouted,”I may be crazy, but I know it’s a lunatic you want!”

And she loved him and her daughter so

As his deep laughter echoed in the still summer air

And her tiny laughter sounded like a fairy’s

Life in the topiary was just fine
