Pancakes Are Better Than You

I sit with a full belly

Perhaps instead of

Pining for you

Like a starving fool

Alone in the woods

Today I'll make pancakes

I know how long to wait for those

To turn into something delicious

I know that satiation will occur

At the end of the arduous process

They offer a level of certainty

I never knew with you

And probably never will

There's love in pancakes

Not just in the food itself

But in the act of making them

To share with those I love

Making good pancakes is an art

Making love with you is a mistake

I can't say I feel

Anything good about

Our processes

You leave a bad taste in my mouth

And I am always hungry for more

As a matter of fact

You could never compare

To pancakes

I love the way you spun pancakes into a metaphor for love and certainty. I also feel like pancakes now!

  • Food is the best. Food will never leave us. Food will never cause us heartbreak. Loved your poem!
