Couch to 5k Reads. Top Story - October 2023.
My musings on the inky trail so far; my appreciation of Tossers; my thoughts and suggestions on the Stats page About a month ago, I suddenly noticed my long-ignored read counter had ticked up over 3,000 reads. Gosh, I thought. That seems like a milestone and a half! I'd not long hauled myself out of a deep, dark hole known as "writer's block". I used this little number to keep me from sinking back into the pit. I allowed myself a little self-congratulatory jig.

Chapter ?: An Angel is Born/Dies [Delete whichever is inappropriate]. Content Warning.
It was a pretty house in the countryside, spacious with gleaming wooden floors and wide windows. A generous porch out the front, and an orchard, although the trees are bare and skeletal at this time of year. On this night, the roof was thickly carpeted with white, its edges forested with icicles. The wind howled, and the sky promised more snow.

It's dirty. Its skin and meagre cloth coverings are tattered and grubby, although there's a clean salt trail on each cheek. It's given up crying now, though, and before long those marks will fill in with grime. The corners of its mouth are drawn down, and its eyes are frightened.
