About this challenge
The Prompt
Imagine a utopian future shaped by radical innovation and explore its unexpected flaws.
Step beyond standard sci-fi tropes and craft a visionary narrative that unveils the hidden flaws within a seemingly perfect society. Envision a future where groundbreaking technology or profound social change has crafted a utopia on the surface, yet beneath its gleaming exterior lie subtle ironies and unanticipated costs. Your story should interrogate the delicate balance between progress and the sacrifices required to achieve perfection.
Delve into themes of identity, progress, and the unforeseen consequences of idealism. Explore how the pursuit of perfection might compromise individuality, create new forms of inequality, or spawn ironic challenges that mirror today’s dilemmas in unexpected ways. Let your narrative serve as both a celebration of visionary progress and a cautionary tale about the price of utopia.
In order for your submission to qualify, it must be:

FPS: The Last Flame Challenge Winners
Welcome to our first Winners Announcement of the year and to the final challenge in the Fall Poetry Series. The Last Flame invited writers to sit with endings, using fire as a central image to consider what remains when something burns out: ash, warmth, memory, silence, or the faint promise of what comes next. The strongest pieces treated endings as gradual rather than sudden, allowing them to flicker, dim, and linger.

FPS: Villanelle of Regret Challenge Winners
Some feelings don’t fade. They repeat. The Villanelle of Regret challenged poets to write into that return. To let regret, longing, and obsession build with each pass, rather than resolve. The strongest entries trusted repetition to carry the weight.
