Can't Beat the House
Lucía liked the Marcel-Wilsons. They treated her like family. Mostly. Lily and Max were good kids. The children had an enormous playroom with all manner of toys and games. The coolest thing, in her opinion was the House. She couldn't understand why the kids didn't play with it more.

Story Contest Scam: What Would You Do?
I'm in a pickle, Vocalists. Lend me your wisdom. TL;DR I recently entered a short story contest. There was an entry fee, which I know is fairly standard. I paid extra for judges feedback on my entry. The "feedback" arrived today, and it's not feedback on my submission. It's just generic advice, and feedback on the winning entry. I feel sure that's not what I paid for, and I'm unsure what I want from them, or what to do next.

It Will Happen Tonight
In a normal little home on the edge of town, it's about to happen. Bathtime. The old water heater has been clanking all afternoon for this. Clean fluffy PJs are warming in the airing cupboard right now. A small girl with sparks in her eyes and a toothy gap under her milk moustache will stand on tiptoe to lean across the sink and squeak her finger through the steam on the mirror. Hot water churning into bubbles in the tub.
