You Have NOT Lost Control
Change how you look at food: you are procuring fuel for your body. Fuel for your family. Fuel for your community. Try to remove the emotion and take a deep breath. You have not lost control of things. You control what YOU DO about things.

"Finish Your Dinner..."
I don't know why my mother went to Tupperware parties. Maybe it was to win a mini-yellow-burp-able-bowl-on-a-keychain? Maybe it was the satisfying 'schwoomp' of a Jell-o (not a sponsor) mold slooping into place when the specially-made insert was removed? Getting a little time away from the five kids? It's not because we needed the containers. That is why we bought the BIG and mini containers of Imperial margarine. With their reusable storing cavities we didn't need to spend money on pastel Squares and Bowls.

Hag Torches. Top Story - July 2025.
"DON'T CUT DOWN THE MULLEIN! SAVE IT FOR HAG TORCHES!" Well. You didn't have to drop a house on me to get my attention; all caps, plants, directive, and the specter of villagers carrying burning brands aloft was plenty enough for me. With that I made a cup of coffee and settled in to a local community Facebook group with over 300 comments to see just what wisdom I could glean from neighbors I'd never met.

A Denunciation
We didn’t do many movies when I was in high school, but I went to see The Hiding Place with my church youth group. I’d read the book, but was not truly prepared to see a family risk everything to hide their Jewish neighbors and then be incarcerated in the Ravensbruck concentration camp on screen. I wondered if I would have been as brave as the ten Boom family.

I Won't Read It
When my children were little I used to wish I had a few pre-loaded buttons that I could activate as needed. One would have been "What do you say?" Another would have been "Was that a nice thing to do?" I'm sure there were others, because I know that my toddlers must have has such a button that they invisibly pressed, ejecting "Why?" into every waking hour.
