Hello?

Your car alarm?

It's going off?

Outside my window?

Still?

Like it has for the past (checks watch) two hours?

Lights flashing?

(But, like, that doesn't bother me? Because I can't hear the lights? The way I have been hearing the car alarm? For two hours?)

Anyway- I need you to turn it off?

Okay?

Now?

Prob'ly it's bad for your car?

Like, it will break the battery?

or something?

Wear out the horn, even?

My dog?

He's crying in the closet?

Just soft whimpers?

I know how he feels, y'know?

Because that noise?

It never stops, doesn't even pause- y'know?

Every .35 second a beep?

Cause I found an app that tracks that fast?

'Cause I have been awake since (checks watch) 1:48 AM and after a while I wondered how many beeps a minute? So I found the app? And it's like, really really fast and that's, like, a lot of beeps a minute? And even more in an hour?

And, it's been (checks watch) over two hours and 3 minutes since it started so that's even more than twice the beeps in an hour?

And, dude?

That's like way too many beeps in a morning, OKAY?

So come on out of your house now and turn it off?

  • Omgggg, I have a neighbour whose car alarm would always go off in the middle of the night and I hate it so much!

I am glad I live in the country now and don't have to worry about this anymore.

    Oh, I'd be so upset!!!

  • It's like when you are somewhere and their annoying phone ringtone goes off and they don't answer it til the last minute. When I worked in Bradford, a lightning strike set off every car alarm within about 30 yards of our building. Great poem

100% relatable, Ms Kalchik! Well-wrought. I felt annoyed on your behalf by the end!
