What drove me to become a computer systems engineer... but then ended up as a cop
I grew up a nerdy introvert with not many friends. That’s probably a statement that many others who went into the world of computing relate to. I didn’t have what I would describe as a sad childhood. In fact, I had good memories of growing up. But my parents placed a big emphasis on making sure my sister and I studied, plus where we lived was a bit out of town and there weren’t a lot of other kids around.

The filleting knife and a lottery win
This is a true story about violence in the Australian outback and a surprising twist to that tale. I lived this story, but I have changed the names of the parties involved. Some families are still hurting from what happened, and some are trying to move on with their lives. Out of respect for both, I afford them some peace.

What I learned while writing my dad's eulogy. Top Story - June 2022.
Dad dying came as a shock to us all. In truth, all of us, Mom included, thought that Mom would have died first. Dad had been diabetic for about 30 years, but he’d managed it, went for regular check-ups, and was relatively fit. But we didn’t know he had heart disease, or that he’d had a previous heart attack (apparently, he didn’t know that one either). So, when he went for a motorbike ride with his buddies that January day, he didn’t come home.

What makes you leave a long marriage?
This year has been pretty crap. My Dad died at the end of January, a good mate of mine got diagnosed with cancer and then I crashed my truck. So, when I was on the phone with my mother, and she said, “I’ve got something I need to tell you” I figured it was going to be that someone else had died or was dying. I was not expecting her to say, “Your Aunty Paula has left your Uncle Brian”.

Why doctors annoy me
Almost to the day that I turned 35 my body started to fall apart, this meant that I got to spend a lot more time with doctors than I had in the first 35 years of my life.

In 2021 the Ford F-series range of trucks celebrated some important milestones, it was recognized as the best-selling vehicle in the United States for the last 40 years, and the best-selling pick-up truck for 45 consecutive years. That’s no mean feat, in fact, few vehicle makers come close, except for the Volkswagen Beetle and the Toyota Corolla.

The Summer of Mango
I grew up in Northern Australia. There are so many different things that remind me of Summer: water skiing, beaches, holidays. But if you ask for one food that reminds me of Summer, it’s the mango all day, every day. The climate there was perfect for growing mangoes, and so much of Northern Australian culture surrounds the mango, there is the Big Mango, songs like ‘Mango Shade’ by Graeme Connors, and culinary delicacies aplenty.

A lesson in pregnant pleasure
“Megan, it is nice of you to join us” As I walked into my Economics lecture, I felt 40 pairs of eyes looking directly at me. I already knew that completing this semester was going to be challenging, but with only one week left to my final exams I wasn’t going to let hurdles get in my way. You know, hurdles like my car not starting, or the fact that I was seven months pregnant and barely able to move faster than a startled tortoise. I certainly didn’t need Professor Ass-hat to call me out in front of the class.

Why being a Vocal content creator can be like being an OnlyFans content creator
Did you write that erotica? Wow! Recently I had someone contact me in relation to one of my stories, after I had promoted it on Twitter. It was an erotic pregnant fiction story, not everyone’s cup of tea I know, but it’s a certain genre I’ve written to a little bit lately. They gave me some positive feedback on it, which for any author is one of the greatest things that can happen (I guess equal to being named a Pulitzer Prize winner, although not sure the last time pregnant erotica won that). I love hearing that my work can touch someone in a positive way, so we started chatting some more.
