Hail to the chief
If you watched the Inauguration events for Joe Biden, on January 20 you probably heard something that you gave no thought to. The day and evening events for the 46th President of the United States included the song “ Hail to the Chief”. What you might not have realized, however, is that it has been a while since we have heard this song as it was not utilized much during the previous administration. President number 45, Donald Trump rarely used the traditional melody to introduce himself when making public appearances. He opted instead for his own pep rally music when he spoke in front of his supporters.

Amazing Grace: the history behind the popular song
On Wednesday, January 20, 2021 Country singer Garth Brooks sang Amazing Grace during the Inauguration of Joe Biden. For many, this was not unexpected for the 46th President of the United States. Amazing Grace is a popular song that is heard often at funerals, in real-time as well as reel-time. It seems to be the song of choice in times of crisis such as in the aftermath of the terrorist attack during 911. There is also a rich history behind the origin of this hymn/folk song. The words to "Amazing Grace" were penned in 1772 by English poet and Anglican clergyman John Newton and was officially published in 1779. Newton wrote Amazing Grace from his own personal experience.

Martin Luther King Jr. and the love he lost
In 1973, R&B group Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes had a hit single titled The Love I Lost. I thought of this tune today after reading a story about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and a love he lost from his college days. The tale is quite tragic because there was only one reason 19-year-old Dr. King and Betty Moitz could not marry.

Radishes may relieve respiratory problems
I grew up in a county where everyone had a garden and ate healthy, except me. My cousins and friends would grab veggies straight out of the garden and eat apples, plums, pears, cherries, and persimmons right off the trees. For whatever reason, I had a strange appetite and no desire to eat fruits and veggies. As I got older and began understanding the role nutrition plays in our overall health, I began trying and enjoying more fresh foods. There are vegetables that I will eat when they are together in a garden salad, and radishes just happen to be one.

'I Got Your Goat' the meaning behind the phrase.
I got your goat-literally People in days gone by often say “ I got your goat” when they have annoyed or tricked someone or gotten the better of them in a situation. These words have been used in modern times similar to playing an April Fools Day joke. This phrase is not used so much now, but it can be heard on occasion. When I was a child if an individual told a tall tale they would say to the person who believed the story, "I got your goat."
