New Year's Wisdom from Angel Kitty in 'Toy Story That Time Forgot'
The new addition to Bonnie's toys has sage advice for her peers that we all can use in 2021 and going forward.

Greet the world with open arms
Toy Story That Time Forgot is a 2014 animated short made for television based on the Toy Story movies. In this cartoon, it's Christmas Day, and Bonnie is playing with her toys.
She removes what appears to be an ornament from the tree, but it's a soft plushy kitten with gold angel wings and a gold halo. She calls it the terrifying Kittysaraus and pretends it's a dinosaur. She lets the kitten join the fun until her mother calls. After Bonnie leaves the room, the toys say how much they enjoyed the experience.
They gather around Kittysarus (Angel Kitty) and express to their new playmate how well she fits in. When Bonnie is heading to a playdate with her friend Mason, she puts some of her toys inside a backpack to take along.
As they ponder the upcoming adventure, the cute little kitten replies, "Greet the world with open arms". This is excellent advice as we embark on each brand-new year. Although the previous 365 days may have been filled with challenges, we should not lose hope. We can greet the New Year with arms wide open and have a good attitude no matter what lies ahead.
Limitations are the shackles we bind to ourselves
When they arrive at Mason's home, the toys notice the little boy is playing with a video game. Rex the dinosaur, who used a remote control in Toy Story 2 pays close attention to the controls Mason is using and remarks that his small arms limit him.
Angel Kitty responds with "Limitations are the shackles we bind to ourselves". A short time later, Rex finds that mechanical arms from the Battlesaurs dinosaur collection help him to do what he could not before. There is an old saying that where there is a will, there is a way. We should not become discouraged and limit ourselves, but instead, keep searching until we find a way.
The joy you give to others is the joy that comes back to you
The leader of the Battlesaurs tells Buz, Woody, and Angel Kitty they will be thrown into a pit. As they are being marched to their doom, the kitten begins playing Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel on her horn, which is pretty hilarious.
The angel is signaling for heavenly help by playing this tune, as the entire verse says Oh come, oh come Emanuel and ransom captive Israel. The kitten is asking to be rescued through the song when one of the evil dinosaurs snatches her horn.
He throws it into the blades of a fan, where it is destroyed. Woody and Buz tell their captors that it is Christmas, but these dinosaurs do not understand. They do not realize they are Christmas toys and believe they are real battle warriors.
Unfazed by losing her musical instrument and without missing a beat, the kitty angel tries to explain the season of goodwill to those who would end her life by saying, "The joy you give to others is the joy that comes back to you." The Battlesaurs mock her, and those who try to remain positive are often ridiculed.
We can begin this new year with an attitude of gratitude like Angel Kitty. We can ignore our detractors and begin spreading joy rather than lamenting all that went wrong in 2020. We can take the attitude of the Angel Kitty and continue to say what we know will uplift others rather than expressing angst about our situations.
Be grateful for your gifts they are all around you
Once the toys are back home in Bonnie's living room, they begin talking about their fun adventure. Trixie the dinosaur had previously complained because Bonnie always pretended that she was various other characters or animals and never played with her as a dinosaur.
She now expresses to the others that as Bonnie's toy she should be grateful for whatever manner in which her owner chooses to utilize her. Angel Kitty replies with "Be grateful for your gifts, they are all around you" and then she disappears.
Angel Kitty's job was done, so she made her exit. Sometimes we need to say exactly what is needed in a situation, no more and no less. Once the mission is complete, we do not need to stick around. We should begin each New Year by looking around at what we do have and being thankful. An attitude of gratitude will carry us far in this uncharted territory of a brand-new year. Happy New Year!
