This statue has historical and religious significance and was originally built as part of a mausoleum for the Roman Emperor Hadrian. The angel is holding a cross representing the Lord’s protection and guidance for the city of Rome and its residents. The statue also symbolizes the Lord’s guidance and intervention in Roman affairs.
