Writing Down The Bones Deck #18

inspired by Denise E Lindquist

Hi guys,

It has been a while since I completed one of these card prompts. This post series has been inspired by Denise E Lindquist. I never would have known about this deck of cards if it wasn't for her. So thank you Denise for sharing this lovely deck of cards with all of us on Vocal.

Full disclosure: I have not read Natalie Goldberg's book titled by the same name YET although I do now own it. I'm excited to read it but, again, I have been putting things on the "TO DO LIST" shelf lately..... whoops.

Let's just get right into things. Without further ado, enjoy my attempt at easing my writer's block with prompt eighteen.

18) You might want to try fiction? Think of a character and write about him/her/them. Tell who they are.

As soon as I read the front of the card, I knew who I wanted to write this one about.

This is what the back of the card states:

Renley Taylor

I was born to two parents that are crazy in love. My name is Renley Taylor and I am five years old. I start Kindergarten this year. I am so excited to go to school like my three older siblings are. I wonder who my teacher is. I am an artist, just like my sister is. Crafting, playing, and drawing with her is some of the best parts of my day. She has a laugh that can put a smile on anyone's face. We have a five year age gap, but we still get along great. I look like my older brother with dark curly hair and deep brown eyes. I don't like him, he is mean to me sometimes.

I like to ride my bike, and catch ladybugs. I do not like olives, ketchup, or grilled cheese. My favourite food is mom's homemade spaghetti. I wonder if she will make it for me tonight.

My favourite colour is yellow. My mommy said that I looked like a cricket when I was in her tummy. My daddy works a lot, I don't get to see him very often. I love my oldest brother the most. He is twelve years old and super cool. He just plays video games with his friends most of the time- but he still makes time for me. He's the bestest big brother.

My sister put my curly hair into two piggy tails for my first day of school. I hope the other kids think it looks pretty.

I wrote this character inspired by someone I never got to meet. I kind of had fun creating this character because I'll never get to meet them and I often wonder what kind of person they would have turned out to be. While I was writing this little blurb about the child I never got to meet, this song came on. And I feel like it is pretty suiting to go along with this piece of writing.

"You won't ever be alone, just wait for me to come home"

Thanks for reading guys.
