Writing Down The Bones Deck #17
inspired by Denise E Lindquist

Hi guys,
It has been a while since I completed one of these card prompts. This post series has been inspired by Denise E Lindquist. I never would have known about this deck of cards if it wasn't for her. So thank you Denise for sharing this lovely deck of cards with all of us on Vocal. I definitely have been putting this card off.
Full disclosure: I have not read Natalie Goldberg's book titled by the same name YET although I do now own it. I'm excited to read it but, again, I have been putting things on the "TO DO LIST" shelf lately..... whoops.
Let's just get right into things. Without further ado, enjoy my attempt at easing my writer's block with prompt seventeen.
17) How do I distract myself?
Oh I just got called out so badly. Okay, well if I am being honest, I do tend to scroll my phone too much. I do read on my Kindle app on my phone as well but Facebook and I are tight. I think that's why it has taken me so long to write this prompt out because I did not know what to say other than scroll. My answer felt a little boring to be honest with you.
However, upon some soul searching, (and truthfully while I was stirring a pot of sauce). I had this sort of realization while cooking spaghetti one afternoon. When I am overwhelmed with life, I find simplicity in cooking for my family. I have written about my homemade spaghetti sauce before and my the classic Pizza Toast recipe, but I truly am constantly in the kitchen cooking for my family. I try new recipes constantly, and even though I am more of an savory foods kind of girl than someone with a sweet tooth, I do occasionally bake. And I love it. It makes me happy knowing I can cook from scratch and be crafty when money is a little tight. It makes me happy. I enjoy taking care of my family in this way.
Cooking is my distraction yes, but it also has become a creative outlet for me, not just a daily chore. It's something I genuinely enjoy doing. I hate the dishes don't get me wrong but I love creating something out of nothing but just ingredients.
I still remember when I made homemade pork cutlets for the first time for my family. The kids called it hands down their favourite meal that I have ever made for them. It truly makes me happy. Everything I cook is with pure love for my family.
I don't always have the focus to read a novel or play video games but that is another way I like to distract myself. I recently have been playing a lot of Fantasy Life: The Girl Who Steals Time. I think I have sunk 30 hours into it so far, which is quite a bit in all honesty- especially for me. I hooked up the Nintendo Wii this summer as well and got some The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess playing time in which absolutely was a huge throwback for me. I can still remember playing the game back when I was a kid and not to toot my own horn or anything like that but I beat it when I was around 11-years-old.
I recently just finished reading The Wolf King by Lauren Palphreyman and it was addicting. My partner keeps making jokes to me in a Scottish accent as the novel did have some spicier scenes in it. I have been trying to get through the second book of the series but it just hasn't captured my attention. Maybe I just need a genre change up instead of fantasy.
I am almost done rambling. I find myself in a strange period of growth. Like a caterpillar in a cocoon right now, preparing for the butterfly stage.
Wait. One last thing to say before I publish this post... is this- What I did here tonight, was a distraction. I write to distract myself or clear my head. Tonight, I wanted to write so badly but I couldn't focus on something to write about. Then I remembered the cards.
Thank you for reading this post.
