Disgruntled. That’s how I feel about all of this. I mean, here this is, a perfectly wonderful opportunity to enter in a challenge, and here I am, hardly able to participate at all. I thought when I saw the title, The Officially Unofficial Dishonourable Mention Challenge, that I would have no problem entering it. After all, I’m critical. I can be harsh. I have a high enough self-regard to be able to successfully look down on others from my elevated saddle. And yet, having read the rules, it’s clear that I cannot enter this contest.

When I started submitting to Vocal back in 2021, I did not think that I would be looking at upwards of 100 followers. I remember the days in my senior year of college when I had only three articles for the longest time: A Good Citizen, Secret Little Wars, and Just Desserts, each with hardly a dozen reads between them for the first month or so. It is an understatement to say that things were slow-going. Once the stats page was updated to show reading trends, it was downright disheartening seeing a flat line of reads resting firmly at zero.

Be Careful Who You Let Into Your Circle ➤Life is a delicate dance, and relationships are the rhythm that guides us through its highs and lows. But not every rhythm matches our steps, and not every person deserves a place in our lives. Be cautious when forming bonds with people who lack emotional intelligence. Why? Because they will never truly understand you. Instead of seeking to connect, they will misinterpret your intentions and personalise every disagreement. Your words, no matter how gentle or sincere, will be twisted into attacks. Imagine trying to explain a simple misunderstanding, only to find yourself accused of being the villain. Such people will not see you for who you are. Worse, they won’t hear you when you cry out for connection or understanding.
