Sixty Cents For A Hundred Reads

Observations On Our Statistics

By Mike Singleton 💜 Mikeydred Published 9 months ago 2 min read

Introduction

On page eight of my stats, I have four stories with a hundred read, each of which has given me sixty cents from Vocal. This is just some thoughts about where most of my reads come from (I still don't know), and how reads often stagnate after the initial publication on Vocal. I recently wrote a story in a similar area here:

Where Do They All Come From? Plus The Read Stagnation

As well as sharing on Facebook and having close to a thousand subscribers I also so share on Bluesky and Threads, and I wonder if that brings me in a lot of my reads from non-Vocal members. The platforms don't seem to tell me that people are reading but if someone just follows the link they won't go back and leave a heart, but I will still get a Vocal read. These are my Blue Sky and Threads profiles:

Then those for hundred read stories, they are actually worth a read so these are the links in case you want to explore a little further.

The talk I included by Steve Roud is an hour long, but both interesting and funny, and Steve is a great presenter.

This was a lift from my Seven Days In blog and while I don't fully understand it, it still fascinates me.

This is about connecting with our Vocal friends, which we all need to do to build our community.

Although nearly two years old this is a list of excellent Vocal Creators although I would probably tackle it differently if I did it again, which I probably will.

There are eight stories with fifty reads, which are spread over two pages which means, because of the flaw in Vocal's stat reporting, "The Dishwasher Dilemma" has overwritten another story so I don't know what that one is. Actually, I looked today and it is this one:

Conclusion

I know this is a bit of a mish-mash but I wanted to record it, and if you have read it thank you so much, I really appreciate you, especially if you leave a comment.

Thank you once more.

Hi, Mike, good information as always. Do you think Blue Sky or Threads is better? If I wanted to adopt one to try and get more coverage, would you recommend one over the other?

Your articles, stories, and poems are always worth a read and a comment to me. You are one of the great ones.

  • 6/10s of a penny per read. It's not much, but it does end up being enough for coffee now & then.

I think you promote your stories really well. You put in the work so you definitely deserve the success. Well done Mike.

I am sharing my Vocal Media links on my Wordpress blogs and find that works better for me than just having the posts on here,

eg. Vocal asks you to write one thing then surprise you by awarding a story that seems to skewer from the topic. I just write, by now i know what my chances are, Nil, nada, non never winnin nuttin. T/S yeah...really appreciate them. You tell em Mike.
