Eight Vocal Challenges
How This Has Affected Me

Introduction
There are currently eight open official Vocal Challenges which you can see in detail here:
Some of these are open for 63 days, which is the 10th of January 2025.
How This Has Affected Me
When I first saw this I felt I was being buried. I feel this when a lot of things land on me at the same time as my mind tells me that they all have to be done.
It is why I am a member of so few Vocal Facebook Groups, my mind cannot deal with with too many things at the same time. I feel that I am being overwhelmed and just want to crawl into my shell and ignore it.
I know people will say that I don't have to do things all at once, but they are not in my head, I am.
I know the answer is to prioritise and plan, and I was advised my a great friend how to deal with it.
The Facebook Group "Great Incantations: A group dedicated to Writing Challenges" helped me greatly by creating separate threads for each challenge, which you can check out here:
When I saw those threads I realised that I just had to do them one at a time. I had already done the Fantasy prologue, and two of the next three are poems so I could create those and now feel totally in control.
I have to give thanks to my friend and the admins of that Facebook Vocal group for showing me the path to take.
I know my path is very different from most creators and we must all find our own way but sometimes we need a hug and a helping hand.
Conclusion
These are how far I have progressed with these current Vocal Challenges and I will complete all eight within the week and then leave them be.
Thank you so much for reading.

Iβm impressed that you enter all challenges. My approach has always been to write what resonates. But yours shows more discipline. Good luck!
I'm with you and other people - I saw it first and thought "oh crap!" and my anxiety started playing up. I did find that there are some that I won't probably enter...not immediately anyway, but there was a few that I will (and two I have already) but yeah...even though I know I'm doing that...the fact that they are there...still kinda wrangles my brain a little. Great article, Mike!
Best of luck on the challenges, I try some challenges but only the ones I think I might really have a chance with. Unfortunately right now it is just hoping and praying that one day I might win one,
I am one that is trying to shy away from the challenges, not for lack of winning, but they take away my ability to focus on my personal writing work. Like you it is a little overwhelming at first, however after reading them, I realize there are maybe three Iβm interested in competing in. Great article Mike
You are a great writer, Mike. You see a challenge and you take it. All you had to do was take a breath and talk to another writer and now your perspective improved and doing those challenges like you want to do them. You are the boss of yourself. Good luck and good work so far.
Itβs truly amazing that you got a lot of those challenges done. I get so overwhelmed that my brain melts. I just need to focus on one at a time. And then life gets in the way and I donβt write it all like yesterday. Thank you for your article. It reminds me to get back to them.
I understand that we all feel differently about our writing and goals as creators. I enter challenges that truly appeal to me as some, such as fantasy and horror are not my cup of tea. Whatever you decide to enter and write I hope you find enjoyment in doing so. π€
I was soooo overwhelmed when I saw all those challenges but quickly realised they were mostly non fiction so that made me feel better
One day at a time, Mike, and you'll take them all!
