The Harris Museum And The Foucault Pendulum
A Visit To A Wonderful Museum In Preston

Introduction
In May last year, I finally got to take my sister out for a meal, but I also wanted to revisit the Harris Museum. It was closed for an upgrade and would be opening soon.
That soon turned out to be 28th September 2025.
This is the article I wrote about that visit.
This is the Harris website:

One of the reasons for visiting was to see their Foucault Pendulum, which at 35 metres is the longest in the United Kingdom.
The Foucault pendulum, or Foucault's pendulum, is a simple device named after French physicist LΓ©on Foucault, conceived as an experiment to demonstrate the Earth's rotation.
These are my Instagram pictures from my visit; the main picture is from the highest level I could get to.
This is their Instagram of the Foucault Pendulum:
The textile piece that is hung with the Foucault Pendulum is this :
As part of the 2025 British Textile Biennial, The Harris will showcase an exciting new contemporary art commission by artist Hannah Robson. This work explores themes of invention and innovation, responding to the story of the Courtauld Factory and the production of Rayon in Lancashire.
When I took the main picture, I actually didn't realise I had got in the queue for the Wallace and Gromit exhibition, but I didn't have time to visit. Nick Park, their creator, is a Prestonian like me. It is open til the new year, so I have time to visit it before it closes.
Conclusion
I am so pleased that The Harris has reopened and will be visiting again when I next visit Preston.
Thank you for reading, and I hope you have enjoyed this and visited the Museum page.
I thought I would include Wallace and Gromit's Cracking Contraptions as my featured video.
