Carmel Defeats John Jay 17-12 By Rich Monetti John Jay and Carmel came into Thursday night’s Class AA match up with identical 3-1 records, and Coach Todd Cayea didn’t need a statistician to sort out the playoff implications. “This was a critical game,” he said after the 17-12 victory. “We got the win, and I’m so proud of our effort.”

Lourdes Defeats Somers 19-13 in Overtime
The last two Section One, Division A Champions faced off at Somers High School on Saturday, and the back and forth game soared as high as the unseasonal temperature. But when Kyle Strack came down with an overtime interception in the end zone, it was Lourdes that finally rose to the top with a 19-13 vicotry.

A Look Back at Somers Victories over Horace Greeley and Poughkeepsie
Jack Kaiser Carries Somers to 33-0 Victory October 5, 2018 Horace Greeley played it safe by squibbing the opening kickoff, and Jack Kaiser appeared to oblige by bobbling the bounce. But the miss step seemed to pause the Quaker coverage, and the senior fullback glided almost untouched to the end zone. The four answered touchdowns that followed for Kaiser weren’t quite so unscathed and probably left bruises on both sides. But Kaiser was sure the Tuskers got the better of the the visitors - and not just on the scoreboard.

2020 NFL Draft Review: Arizona Cardinals
Last year, many football fans expected the Arizona Cardinals to not be real competitive with a brand new head coach and a starting rookie quarterback right out of the gate for week 1. However, the Arizona Cardinals easily exceeded their expectations in the rugged NFC West. The other three teams in the conference (San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams) all finished with winning records in the regular season. Although the Arizona Cardinals finished with a 5-10-1 record, six of those ten losses were seven points or less.

NFL Mock Draft
Following the first wave of free agency, I thought it would be a great time to do another mock draft. I did this draft with my brother JAC Conlu to have more fun with it. A lot of big moves were done so far in free agency making this time of the year always exciting as a fan. This mock draft was done following the additions through free agency and catered to what the remaining needs are for each team. No trades were done in this mock draft.

Somers Doesn’t Let Fog Derail their Season with 28-14 Victory Over Lourdes
At the high school last night, the Tuskers found themselves on unfamiliar ground in the Quarterfinals of the Class A Playoffs. They trailed 6-0, and the fog did not obscure the Warriors from setting their sights on a two score lead with the goalposts just ahead. But Somers held on at the goal line. The home team then scored the next 21 points - leaving Lourdes not knowing where they were before falling 28-14.

A Look at John Jay Fall Sports
John Jay Volleyball Sweeps Yorktown in Three Straight John Jay and its 16-4 record will likely enter the sectionals as the one or two seed and last Thursday night’s three game sweep of Yorktown should provide a good lift for the upcoming post season. But the October 17 match up was far from a late season tune up against an easy team, according to Coach Tom Rizzotti.

Super Bowl Madness
In case you’re living under a rock or don’t care, Super Bowl LIV is about a week away. Most of you are probably preparing to host a Super Bowl party or attend one, whether it’s at a friend’s house, restaurant, etc. The big game between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers in Miami is a matchup that’s worth tuning in for. I asked my followers last week which team they’re rooting for to win it all. A majority of people said that the Chiefs are going to hoist the Lombardi trophy. My pick to win the big game is the 49ers. The Chiefs are in the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years, but I see San Francisco winning by less than 10 points. Last I checked, according to a Sporting News article, Betonline.ag listed Kansas City as a point and half favorite over San Francisco. Here are some facts about the Super Bowl:

Somers Wipes Away Earlier Defeat with 42-6 Victory over Yorktown
Earlier this year Somers and Yorktown faced off as undefeated Class A powerhouses. Both teams battled up and down the field before the Huskers pulled away in the final minutes. So a packed house at Mahopac High School had to be sitting in wait of another titanic struggle. But the Tuskers clearly suffered a memory lapse and gave the Huskers a stinging 42-6 defeat that they may never forget.
