Trump and Starmer: To Meet in Scotland.
Important Issues Will Be Discussed.

Starmer and Trump have met a few times now. The bonhomie between them seems to be good-natured. Are the two leaders putting on a front because they have to work together? Is their relationship in private more tetchy? Or is there a genuine bromance there? Trump says he likes Starmer, and Starmer has said the same about Trump.
Be that as it may, the two leaders are meeting up again. Trump is in Scotland visiting his golf course in Ayrshire. While there, Trump is expected to meet the Scottish First Minister. What will be up for discussion between the two men may or may not be the same as when Trump meets Starmer. Politically, the Scottish First Minister loathes Trump, and I'm sure the feeling is mutual.
So what's on the agenda as Trump and Starmer meet at Trump's golf course? Two big issues will dominate their conversations. The UK's trade deal with the US and the ongoing conflict in Gaza. A meeting took place in the Middle East between Israel, the US, and Hamas. Qatar and Egypt acted as honest brokers, presumably. Conversely, the talks collapsed with the US and Israeli delegations leaving. Trump, unsurprisingly, blamed Hamas for the failure of the ceasefire talks. Trump said Hamas doesn't want a deal and "they want to die". Trump also said, "Hamas would be hunted down". Trump is frustrated with Netanyahu at the same time.
The British government, too, is reported to be at its wits' end with Israel. However, the British approach is at odds with the US view. The UK has been coming under pressure from its MPs to recognise Palestine. Mr. Starmer said: "The starvation and denial of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, the increasing violence from extremist settler groups and Israel's disproportionate military escalation in Gaza are indefensible".
Mr. Macron is set to recognise Palestine. However, in the short run, that is hardly going to alleviate the suffering in Gaza. As Trump said, Macron recognising Palestine "will carry little weight". The UK, France, and Germany are going to work on the next phase of Gaza, whatever that means! Can Starmer pressure Trump to keep going with the idea of a ceasefire? Not just a 60-day ceasefire where prisoners are swapped on both sides and then go back to war. A permanent ceasefire for both sides.
The US wants to refine the trade deal between itself and the UK. Starmer is expected to ask Trump to lower tariffs on British steel imports into the USA. How well Starmer does on this will await to be seen.
Ukraine is another burning issue on the agenda for both men. Trump has turned against Putin somewhat, as Putin has refused to sign up for a peace deal. Lately, Trump sent more arms to Ukraine in frustration at Putin not playing ball with his peace plan. Also, in retaliation for Russia lobbing hundreds of drones and missiles into Ukraine. Putin did this as if to spite Trump, saying, "In yer face, Trumpy boy"!
So both men meet to discuss the UK and US trade deal. Meet to discuss the war in Israel and Gaza. The war in Russia and Ukraine. Maybe they will discuss Iran also. Both men will want to come out of the meeting having got the best for themselves and their countries. Can we expect anything major on any front, be it conflicts, trade deals, politics, etc? Well, while not ruling these things out frankly, I wouldn't hold your breath. It'll be talks, about talks, about talks, for the most part.
trade deal with the US and the ongoing war in Gaza.
