When Zarah Sultana MP said she was leaving the Labour Party and forming a new party with Jeremy Corbyn, it wasn't a surprise to those in the know or who suspected Ms. Sultana would do such a thing. When she said she was co-launching and co-leading this party with Jeremy Corbyn, even he was taken aback!
Not that he was not onboard with Zarah on forming this alternative to Labour, but he did not want the fact known as talks, as he said himself, were ongoing. Forced to admit something was going on, Mr. Corbyn said the new party was in formation. Now, Mr. Corbyn and Ms. Sultana have announced the party is born. The party, for now, has the moniker of "YourParty". WWW.YourParty is the link, should you wish to learn more.
Whether this link provides information about the party or also contains news about policies is not known. Will I be clicking on the link to look? yes. I supported Jeremy Corbyn when he was Labour Leader. Of course, not on everything; however, he seemed to offer something different. That seemed more in line with putting ordinary folk first for once. He offered a pacifist foreign policy based on peace and talking. He talked about UBI replacing the welfare system, which wasn't and is not working. He said the government would provide free broadband. The railways would be renationalised, and alternative energy would be paramount. A new look at the planet and what we are doing to it would be policy. The UK would not sell weapons to Israel. Some accused Corbyn of being an Anti-Semite. It was said that some Jewish MPs felt uncomfortable and faced being thrown out of the party under Mr. Corbyn's watch. Being against what the Israeli government is doing does not make one an Anti-Semite.
Mr. Corbyn came very near to unseating Theresa May in a general election, which left her hanging by a thread. She had to form a loose alliance with right-wing Northern Irish parties to stay in power. Corbyn was at his zenith, highly popular with many. Even making a speech at Glastonbury, receiving rock star-like adulation. His supporters sang "Oh Jeremy Corbyn" to the music of the song "Seven Nation Army". There were illustrations of him Christ-like or as a saint sent by God. These were heady days indeed!
However, Jeremy Corbyn lost the 2019 general election to Boris Johnson. When Sir Keir became Labour leader, he purged the party of Corbynites. He booted Jeremy from the party, who then sat as an independent MP. Corbyn at the general election even faced a Starmerite candidate to unseat Jeremy. However, Mr. Corbyn was reelected to parliament to represent his North London constituency. With Mr. Starmer winning a thumping majority in the general election, Sir Keir must have thought he had heard the last of Jeremy Corbyn. Mr. Starmer served as a minister in Corbyn's shadow cabinet when he was leader of the Labour Party.
Sir Keir must have thought like the Romans and Jews in Palestine, who had seen the last of Jesus. Only to have him rise again and Christianity take over the world. So, with Jeremy Corbyn teaming up with Zarah Sultana to form this new left party, Sir Keir will be aware that this new party could be a threat. Labour MPs on the left dissatisfied with a right-leaning Labour government may jump ship and join Corbyn and Sultana's crew. Sir Keir is besieged by Reform UK on the right, and now it might be the same with this creation of Corbyn and Sultana.
A statement released by the "Your Party" said: "Our movement is made up of all faiths and none. The great dividers want you to think problems in our society are caused by migrants or refugees. They're not".
Another statement attacked "an economic system that protects corporations or billionaires". Ordinary people create wealth and ordinary people are the ones to put it back where it belongs".
