My Unexpected Education in U.S. Immigration Policy
Before I met my fiancé, I never had much interest in U.S. immigration policy, but then I had to go and fall in love with a man who is a Haitian citizen. We started the process of applying for his fiancé visa (K-1 visa) in February 2020, and it has been a roller coaster of heartache, hope, frustration, and impatience ever since. Do you have loved ones who can’t easily come to the U.S.? I can’t give any official advice on what you should do, but I can let you know what I have learned so far in my journey.

The High Cost of Living in the Bay Area
I live in San Jose, where the cost of living is somewhat better than in Mountain View, but the skyrocketing rent is something that needs to be looked at more by City Council. We practically need to have better rent control. Renting a house or apartment and buying gasoline are the single greatest expenses people living in the Bay Area have to make (Mercury News). When the economy is going well, businesses expand because they have the money to hire more employees. When things are not going so well, they drop employees.

Why I Kept My Promise and Moved to New Zealand When Trump Was Elected
Why I Kept My Promise and Moved to New Zealand When Trump was Elected I have been telling lies. Not ones to harm anyone and not straight up lies, more white laced lies. With politics right now being so emotionally charged and unfashionable, it is much easier to say "I moved to New Zealand for [insert here 'family lifestyle, an adventure, the beauty]..." and the list goes on. While there is truth there, the raw, unclean answer is the 2016 election determined everything for us.

Influx of Asylum Seekers In Canada Prompts Military Support
"To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith," Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau tweeted January 28, 2017, and it appears that refugees in the United States, at least, are taking him seriously.
