Past politicians, legislation and political movements have changed the course of history in ways both big and small. Welcome to our blast to the past.

There's something about 80's rock 'n roll that can get anyone feeling nostalgic. As Jouney's "Don't Stop Believing" plays in the distance, sudden feelings of affection grow in me as I remember the "old New York"; $2.25 metro card fare and salted pretzels in Central Park. But the opening lyrics couldn't be further from anything in my memory bank. Growing up in the heart of Manhattan is about the furthest thing from a small-town girl that one can imagine. With Lincoln Center just a frisbee throw away, boredom is hard to achieve and novelty is just a classroom away.

On The Darkest Day
The breeze from the water blew across the land. This was quite different from the harsh Chicago winters. The much-needed vacation brought Nora Higgins from her wintery home to the territory of Hawaii. The palm trees glimmered in the sunlight, and this did not feel like any December she had ever felt. It was terrific to walk on the warm sand on the beach. The water and its infinite depth splashed up the shore. It was a lovely day in a world in shambles. Yet, she was glad to get some rest from the busy hospital this time of year. The flu was always happening, and the bustling city was far from her imagination. This was a calm place of refuge from a hectic life. The mountains rose in the distance as pillars of beauty. This was the time to relax and enjoy the sun despite the winter season. Some were cold, but Nora only knew Chicago and much lower temperatures. Her brown hair swayed in the wind as she soaked in the rays. It was a vacation to remember after saving up for all that time. The day was just beginning, and a luau was also planned for the evening. It was time to see a warmer climate, and I secretly wished to stay longer. The hotel was great, and the locals were kind to all who came. This place was paradise, and the lack of snow was the best part. The day was waning as she headed to a luau, and the dances were excellent, with the food even more tasty than the restaurants. Nora could only dream of being here for the week, and the sunsets over the trees were dessert. She loved her job, but this vacation was needed to bring a new perspective.

A Sharp Spoke of the Wheel
As far as we know, the social cycle theory goes back at least as far as ancient Greece. Heck, even the word cycle comes from the ancient Greek word kyklos, which implies that they were looking back at other cultures and civilizations we don’t know much of anything about, and coming to the same conclusions.

The story of a life saving Parrot, amidst the chaos and order of hospital life.
The world was burning, a new US president was being sworn into office, it was Martin Luther King's Day and a few days short of my friend's February 6th birthday. She now finds herself being prepped for life saving surgery.

Mindless Obedience. Content Warning.
She remembers the day it all changed. Her world, her life... everything she knew became twisted. The whole world changed in an instant. It was the day this twisted version of a patriotic political party gained control in her country. They called themselves the party for the country and making it "great" once again. They were led by a man whose rise to power was swift and done by gaslighting the people into believing that he would give them wealth and make their country shine again. His name was Hitler. He destroyed her life, and the lives of millions.

Fish in a Barrel. Runner-Up in The Moment That Changed Everything Challenge.
Friday November 22, 1963 Manhattan, New York, 1 p.m. Prime rib, asparagus and whipped potatoes, .5 cent beers and .15 cent Manhattans were the lunch special every Friday at Captain Cutler’s Lounge in Midtown. You could smell it as you turned from Fifth Avenue onto West Fifty-Sixth. It was warm, so the door to the lounge was propped open by a golden hoof of a door stop. Cigar smoke and plunky jazz wormed its way onto the street to mix with the low hanging clouds that blanketed the city.

Lockdown
I can give you the date: March 11, 2020. Everything that led up to this moment and the fallout afterward may fall from the world’s memory over time, but I kept a running timeline from pre-2020 to January 2021. I know that one day my grandchildren will ask if any of “that stuff” actually happened so I collected article headlines, news photos, and the abundance of memes that one day won’t make sense out of context.

NOITULOVE. Content Warning.
Introduction I wasn't so sure about doing this one, and I doubt this will even be considered for the challenge as it is not SWAMP material although it will touch on that, though ironically the video does include a swamp, but I still think it is worth sharing. It will contain lots of pivotal moments and may probably lose me some subscribers but if it makes one person think or give one person inspiration then it will be worth doing.

Where Will You Be in 5 Years?. Honorable Mention in The Moment That Changed Everything Challenge.
I am sixteen years old, interviewing for a job making coffee at Tim Horton's. The small fast food coffee shop is filled with, what I would learn in On-Board Training were Arabica beans. Later on that smell would cling to me like my own sweat, seeping beyond my uniform and undershirt into my bras and skin. I'd throw my bra on the bed after work and try to find a clean one before school the next morning but no matter what detergent I used, they all smelled like Tim Horton's coffee. It felt like it took a year after quitting that job to get the smell of Arabica beans out of my hair.
