From An Outsiders Eyes

Chicago BLM Protest

Okay at a time when 40 million people are out of work and our beautiful nation is splitting at the seems not because of opposing opinions by political parties, but because of the burning desire inside a large majority of the nation to move forward with creating a truly equal America. At this time if your a white American wake up. You benefit everyday from your white skin. There is NO need to deny that. If life’s a rat race, you just stared further ahead and have shortcuts that allow you to take breaks in between the race. To be a “RACIST” is simply having a social preference based on skin tone. Think of the “Doll Test” (if your unfamiliar with the “Doll Test” look it up) because it’s the daily practices and principles that wears the black communities image down both in and externally. All anybody of color is asking is to be able to live the way you do. The way your able to walk outside every morning not having to make sure you bring your ID to walk your dog to prove you can afford to live where you do. The way you can drive an up to date vehicle and not have to worry about being pulled over by the officer that’s expecting to find something in the car because your black and they don’t know how your able to afford your items. Or the officer that’s having just as bad a day as anyone else but in order to make themselves feel better they enforce authority. But this isn’t a police issue. Being a racist is taught in the schools, movies, tv etc but saying “I’m not racist” without thinking “How am I racist” is what continues to stunt the growth of harmony.

Now, approaching the fall season of 2020 America is still not the nation it could be. With growing racial tensions across the entire county we are now starting to see the birth of a younger more racially aware generation. In the state of Washington on the voting ballots for state governor some right winged members take it upon themselves to separate further from their party by casting themselves as (Trump Republican). In the deep south, where race has always been the pin point of most issues, in the smaller town of Hattiesburg Mississippi, students participated in a walk out where they were joined by their parents, community members, and few were met in harmony with other students after students were welcomed back to school with chants of "white power.'' A black student was asked what brought about the walkout and she responded "Oak Grove is extremely reactive and never proactive'' going on to say "When racist incidents happen, they don’t do anything about it. They try to cover it up and silence us.” The school district responded with a statement of the following: “I apologize. I’m not the one who yelled that statement, but I wish that it had never happened,” the Lamar County School District superintendent said. “That is not a part of what we are in Lamar County or at Oak Grove High School and it’s certainly not what I stand for.” The school district will go on to punish all students (primarily of color) that participated in the walk out and is said to be looking for an individual who is the ring leader of the "white power" chants. This is yet again another example of the way people of color are systematically silenced in not just the American deep south but, nationwide as the Lamar County School District looks to take action on punishing the students involved in the walkout first.

What message have we really been pushing onto the youth. If Black Lives Matter is an issue, saying the life of a black person matters no matter the age nor appearance, what's the true message. If the 1960'2-80's were a fight for civil rights what can the 2020's-30's become? Forty years from now what will we look back and say about this current time? How will we shape and label our current era? How will you make a change?
